Rangers moved to 2nd-place in the Scottish Premiership table, when they defeated competitors Aberdeen 2-1 at the Pittodrie Stadium, on Sunday.
Defender Danny Wilson opened the scoring for the Gers in the 14th minute with a brilliant looping header, but a second-half red card to Ryan Jack in the 56th minute made the atmosphere a tense one for Graeme Murty’s side. However, Josh Windass added a second in the 63rd minute to all but confirm the win. Frank Ross pulled one back for the Dons soon after, but Rangers held on to their lead to take three points home on the day.
The result sees them leap up to 2nd place in the table ahead of Aberdeen on goal difference, and 7 points behind league leaders Celtic who also happen to have a game in hand.
Here’s how the Rangers’ players performed on the day:
Had very little to do for most parts of the game. Got his hands to Ross’ free-kick and should have done better to keep it out.
Another strong display from the right-back after his midweek heroics. Got forward well and sent in a number of crosses and defended resolutely as well.
Brought back into the line-up for the first time since the Gers’ Europa League debacle, the defender did not put a foot wrong. Was strong in challenges, won his headers and was solid overall.
Opened the scoring for the Gers with a stunning headed effort, but was withdrawn at half-time due to a concussion.
Got the assist for the opening goal with a floated cross. Used his pace well down the left-hand side to get forward. More contained after the break, but stuck well to his defensive duties.
The youngster continues to make huge strides. Starting again in front of the back four, McCrorie impressed with his reading of the game, breaking up a number of attacks while also showing good pace and composure.
Was his usual energetic self in the middle of the park, going about pressing and harrying the opposition. Great work rate.
The former Aberdeen man was enjoying a strong return to the Pittodrie until a poor challenge on Stevie May saw him get sent off for the fourth time this season.
Showed glimpses of quality here and there, but was hardly as impactful as he was in the midweek win over the Dons.
Booked very early in the game for a dive. Did very little throughout the game until he netted the second goal after the break.
Struggled to influence the proceedings to a great degree. His display was filled with poor touches, loss of possession on numerous times.
Came on for Wilson at the restart. Held the fort well as the Dons went on looking for a leveller. Made an important clearance late on.
Replaced Pena in the second period and laid on the assist for the second goal.
Subbed on for Windass in injury time.
