Brilliant Izquierdo, Poor Ulloa – The best and the worst rated Brighton players vs West Ham

Share

Final Score: Brighton and Hove Albion 3-1 West Ham United

Two remarkable second half goals from José Izquierdo and Pascal Groß helped Brighton and Hove Albion boost their survival chances. They took West Ham United to the cleaners right from when Glenn Murray, their top scorer this season, gave them the lead. They beat the Hammers 3-0, who are currently struggling from a winless run after having shown some resilience under Moyes.

The Amex stadium had more than a handful of occasions to cheer about and erupt. Chris Hughton’s side have now pulled three points clear off the drop zone and have extended their opponents’ winless run to four games now. Right from the word go, they came out of the blocks and looked to break the shackles. Their positive start and momentum helped them to a crucial victory. Apart from the three goals, they got three other chances, mainly through Knockaert.

Brighton Player Ratings

Mathew Ryan: 8/10

Made a couple of sensational stops. He was there to step up whenever required.

Ezequiel Schelotto: 7/10

Did some decent running up and down the pitch.

Shane Duffy: 7/10

As usual, was a titanic presence in the air. Organised his fellow defenders well.

Lewis Dunk: 6/10

Was not always in the best position but blocked some important crosses and was an aerial threat in the opposition box.

Gaetan Bong: 8/10

Stuck to his position, narrowed himself down when West Ham tried to turn the tides and didn’t commit to silly challenges.

Davy Propper: 7/10

Propper blocked the passing lanes, stuck his foot out whenever required and proved to be an extra passer in the middle third.

Dale Stephens: 7/10

A formidable pair with Propper. Stood to his task and was neat throughout.

Anthony Knockaert: 7.5/10

Superb display of crossing and ball retention. He should have converted a couple of chances to destroy the Hammers’ defence.

José Izquierdo: 9/10

Injected so much pace down the left, never seemed tired, always looked to drive forward, cut inside and produced an inch perfect moment. He did create one that would go down as one of the goals of the season. He curled one into the top corner, with bull’s eye accuracy.

Pascal Groß: 9/10

Groß was absolutely outstanding! He showcased his trickery and range of passing from an advanced position. He found pockets of space and scored a japper.

Glenn Murray: 8.5/10

Five goals in his last seven appearances for the Seagulls. Murray is brimming with confidence and he proved it with his hold up play, forward running and a composed finish.

Substitutes

Leonardo Ulloa: 5/10

Couldn’t make much of an impact. Failed to get a shot away.

Solomon March: 7/10

Came off the bench to see off the game. Stayed deeper, blocked long balls and over the top passes.

Beram Kayal: N/A

Not enough time to make an impact. Hence, can’t be rated.
