Leeds United 1-1 Sunderland: Whites Manage To Secure A Point After Going Down

Leeds United welcomed a relegation-threatened Sunderland to Elland Road hoping to ease the pressure on Paul Heckingbottom as their season continues to peter out. However, the home side were only able to gain a draw against one of the worst sides in the league.

In a quiet first half, Leeds were on the front foot but rarely tested the Sunderland keeper. In the 48th minute, Sunderland’s Paddy MacNair scored to put the Yorkshire club under pressure. Leeds then equalised in the 72nd minute to put pressure on Sunderland who managed to hold out until the final whistle.

Leeds Player Ratings

Bailey Peacock-Farrell – 7

He could not do much to stop the goal but other than that, he went about his business calmly.

Stuart Dallas – 6

Ran the right-hand side well but is less than comfortable as a wing-back.

Pontus Jansson – 7

Led his team well, especially with such a young player next to him.

Paudie O’Connor- 7.5

Looked nervous on his debut at Elland Road but grew into the game.

Gaetano Berardi – 5.5

Got himself sent off as the game drew to a close.

Kalvin Phillips

Kalvin Phillips – 6

Was substituted first and was fairly ineffective throughout the game. Got overrun in the midfield too often.

Ronaldo Vieira – 6.5

Hit the woodwork in the first half and was a willing runner all game.

Ezgjan Alioski – 6.5

Saw a shot hit the woodwork and is improving with every game. Needs to add more goals to his game.

Samuel Saiz – 7.5

Had a great start to the game, putting Vieira through twice in the opening moments. Provided the assist for Pablo Hernandez’s goal.

Pablo Hernandez – 8

Got the vital equaliser and as always, was the creative heart of the team.

Pierre Michel-Lasogga – 6

His form has fallen off a cliff in the second half of the season. He is a big unit but too is a passenger too often.

Substitutes

Kemar Roofe (for Phillips) – 6

Will be happy to be back on the pitch after recovering from an injury.

Caleb Ekuban (for Lasogga) – 6.5

A willing runner who stretched the ailing Sunderland defence.

Vurnon Anita (for Saiz) N/A

Came on in the 91st minute to cover the sending off.
