Full Time: Chelsea 1-1 Atletico Madrid

Antonio Conte’s Chelsea failed to retain their top spot in Group C of the Champions League as they only picked a point from Atletico Madrid’s trip to the Stamford Bridge this week. After an eventful first half that should have seen Chelsea take the lead on more than one occasion, Atletico Madrid opened the scoring 56 minutes into the game.

Chelsea then went on to the front foot but needed an own-goal from Stefan Savic, for them to take a point from the game. As it turned out, the visitors would have been knocked out, irrespective of the result of this game.

Chelsea Player Ratings

Thibaut Courtois (7)

Had one show-stopping moment early in the second half, denying Koke on the rebound from close range but had a comfortable night otherwise.

Cesar Azpilicueta (7)

The Spaniard is growing in stature by the game as he put on yet another solid performance, keeping the visitors away from danger.

Andreas Christensen (7)

Was well supported by his teammates at the heart of the defence in a solid performance, clearing the danger whenever needed.

Gary Cahill (6)

Was caught out for pace at times down the flank but was assured on most occasions, helping his side see off the game.

Victor Moses (6)

Was solid when needed at the back but failed to have any real impact at the other end.

Cesc Fabregas (6)

His passing range was yet again exquisite as was his set-piece delivery but needed just a bit more, to break a well-drilled Atletico side.

N’Golo Kante (7)

Did no mistake with his defensive duties but Kante was not his usual self with the ball at his feet. But then, that is hardly his job.

Tiemoue Bakayoko (5)

Completely at fault for Niguez’s goal and was also not as influential as his Spanish counterpart alongside him in the midfield.

Davide Zappacosta (6)

Had to constantly cut in, playing on the left flank but made the most of whatever chances he got, constantly testing the Atletico Madrid defence.

Eden Hazard (8)

His desire to help his side get back on level terms is what that got Chelsea the equaliser and that, after he was constantly harassed by the visitors, makes this outing all the more special from the Belgian dazzler.

Alvaro Morata (6)

Wasted a golden opportunity to win the game late but was constantly looking to test Oblak right from the start of the game.

Substitutes:

Pedro (7)

Added some energy to a hapless Chelsea side and almost won it for them late in the game.

Willian (5)

Gave away the ball too easily and cost his side a couple of counters that could have given his side all three points.

Michy Batshuayi (6)

Was a threatening presence around the box and also came close to scoring a winner late in the game.
