Southampton’s hopes of avoiding relegation suffered a fresh blow as they were held to a 0-0 draw by Leicester City at the King Power Stadium.

The Saints arrived at Leicester five points adrift of safety with five matches remaining, following four straight league defeats. A point moves them within four points of 17th-placed Swansea City, however, the Welsh side have a game in hand over Mark Hughes’ side.

Hughes named an unchanged side from the defeat to Chelsea, despite an FA Cup semi-final against the same opponents on Sunday.

The Saints had a number of clear-cut opportunities with Shane Long profligate in front of goal. Leicester also had their chances with Riyad Mahrez testing Alex McCarthy early on with a low shot.

The Foxes put Southampton under real pressure late on but failed to find a breakthrough and the visitors held on.

Ben Hamer – 7/10

Ben Hamer came in for the injured Kasper Schmeichel and justified the selection with a solid performance, producing a crucial save to deny Shane Long.

Marc Albrighton – 6/10

Marc Albrighton played on the right of a back four and was always a threat with his wicked deliveries.

Aleksandar Dragovic – 7/10

Strong and commanding in the air, the Austrian was good against a toothless Saints attack.

Harry Maguire – 7/10

Southampton rarely threatened and whenever they did, Maguire was up to the task.

Ben Chilwell – 6/10

Showed great energy to bomb forward whenever he found opportunities. Chilwell showed great attacking intent and was a constant threat on the left.

Wilfred Ndidi – 7/10

Ndidi walked back into the team after serving a two-game suspension. The Nigerian brought bite to Leicester’s midfield, broke up plenty of opposition’s play and provided a perfect screen for the defence.

Adrien Silva – 6/10

Alongside Ndidi, Silva was decent if not spectacular. His passing was not as crisp as it usually is but he provided a good platform for the attackers to express themselves.

Riyad Mahrez – 6/10

A mixed night for the jet-heeled Algerian. He was Leicester’s most creative player as he always looked to create chances. However, Mahrez was not at his best with the set-pieces.

Demarai Gray- 6/10

Gray is one of the most exciting talents Leicester have in their squad. He used his blistering pace to good effect, causing a lot of trouble to the Southampton defenders.

Kelechi Iheanacho – 6/10

Iheanacho made his fourth start of the season and linked up well with Vardy. However, the Nigerian faded after the break.

Jamie Vardy – 6/10

Vardy tested Alex McCarthy with a poked effort which the Southampton goalkeeper tipped over the bar. The Englishman showed clever movement and good energy but lacked the cutting edge as Leicester searched for the winner, late in the second half.

Came on for Iheanacho in the 76^th minute but failed to make an impact.

Barnes was introduced in the stoppage time to help Leicester get a point.
