Brilliant Griffiths, Poor Christie – The best and the worst rated Celtic stars vs FK Suduva

Goals from Leigh Griffiths, Callum McGregor and Kristoffer Ajer helped Celtic qualify for the Europa League group stages with a comfortable victory at home to FK Suduva. Celtic prevailed with a 3-0 win on the night and won 4-1 on aggregate.

Griffiths etched his name into the Celtic folklore by netting his 100th goal for the club, against Suduva. He opened the scoring with a fantastic free-kick from 25-yards out.

McGregor grabbed his side’s second goal with a fine strike from the edge of the box shortly before Ajer registered his first goal with a looping header to book the Bhoys’ place in the Europa League group stages.

Celtic player ratings

Craig Gordon – 6/10

A relatively quiet night for the Celtic goalkeeper. Commanded his box well and kept a clean sheet that will boost his confidence going into Sunday’s mega clash against Rangers.

Mikael Lustig – 6/10

Lustig was defensively diligent and offered a good attacking outlet from the right. He will be pleased with his performance against the Lithuanian club.

Dedryck Boyata – 6/10

Rock solid at the back, Boyata had a field day as Suduva rarely attacked on the night.

Kristoffer Ajer – 7/10

Ajer scored Celtic’s third on the night when he met Griffiths’ deep cross towards the back post with a looping header. He had very little to do when it came to defending.

Kieran Tierney – 6/10

A solid performance from the young left-back. Tierney played a wonderful ball down the left-wing for McGregor to run onto and while the midfielder did well in getting to the ball, he failed to finish.

Scott Brown – 6/10

Brown controlled the tempo of the game from the middle of the park. An easy night for the Celtic skipper.

Callum McGregor – 7/10

McGregor’s excellent footwork and intricate passing troubled Suduva. Showed great composure to pick the ball in from Scott Sinclair and fe find the bottom corner of the net.

Olivier Ntcham – 6/10

Barring a couple of careless moments in possession, he looked solid enough in the midfield. He supported the attack well, showed great energy and made some good passes.

Michael Johnstone – 7/10

Johnstone was a bundle of energy for Celtic, stretching the Suduva defence with his pace and directness. His decision-making was poor at times but not his desire to compete for every ball. A really solid performance from the young gun.

Scott Sinclair – 6/10

Sinclair looked anonymous at times, although he tried to make things happen every time he got the ball. He did well to tee up McGregor for Celtic’s second goal.

Leigh Griffiths – 8/10

Settled the nerves with a wonderful free-kick, which also marked his 100^th goal for Celtic. Despite scoring the goal, Griffiths continued working hard and kept the Suduva defence on its toes.

Substitutes

Ryan Christie – 4/10

Came on for Griffiths in the 65^th minute and showed some really good touches on the ball.

Emilio Izaguirre – 4/10

Replaced Tierney with 20 minutes left to play. Did his job well.
