Brilliant Coutinho – The Best And The Worst Rated Liverpool Players vs Manchester United

Share

Today’s match seemed more like an even match and the result also signified the same. Liverpool advance to the quarterfinals with a 1-1 draw, which took the aggregate score to 1-3. Manchester United were hopeful of doing a turnaround once Antony Martial scored from the penalty spot  in the 32nd minute. However the hopes were crashed on the brink of half-time thanks to an individual piece of beauty from Coutinho.

Manchester United looked like the better team for the first half an hour and they eventually got rewarded once Martial was brought down by Clyne inside the Liverpool box. But they couldn’t sustain on with the momentum and a weak defensive performance by Varela completely changed the scope of the game.

Jurgen Klopp was as pumped as ever and was seen thanking the away fans for their constant support and motivation throughout the game. Louis Van Gaal, on the other hand is getting more and more negative emotions towards him and many would question the substitutions he made.

This is how we rated the Liverpool players after the match.

S. Mignolet – 6/10

Was early to sense dangers and kept a cool head for all the United free kicks that were in dangerous areas around the box. He could hardly do anything about the penalty but made a brilliant save to deny Lingard’s header.

N. Clyne – 4/10

He was very poor on the whole. A number of mistimed fouls inside the Liverpool box and gave away United the penalty. He wasn’t that great going forward as well. He was rightfully substituted in the second half.

D. Lovren – 6.5/10

Lovren had a good game. Lovren was asked to mark Fellaini and he did that with perfection. He didn’t let Fellaini win most of the aerial duels and was good with his passing as well.

M. Sakho – 8/10

Anything that came inside the Liverpool box in the second half, met with a strong and defiant Sakho. He was everywhere in defence for Liverpool. He was good in the air and as well as the ground. The block against Rashford was the highlight of his game.

J. Milner – 7/10

With Moreno limping off training yesterday, Milner stepped up and played the left back position with ease today. He was good going forward and provided a number of decent crosses in to the United box. He also linked up well with Coutinho on the left.

J. Henderson – 6/10

Although he was deployed as a central midfielder, he made quite a few runs into the United box but was inconsistent with his shooting. However he passed around the ball well.

A. Lallana – 6.5/10

Lallana had a decent game too. Was good on the right flank and provided good passes to the Liverpool attackers. He had a good second half and was just okay in the first half.

E. Can – 8/10

The German was brilliant. He was the one that gave that exquisite pass to Coutinho and set him free. He was very good defensively as well and won his duels against Fellaini in the middle of the field.

P. Coutinho – 8/10

He was clever enough to see Can and made that run to set him free for Can to pass it to him. That goal was a piece of individual master-class and can be regarded as one of the best finishes in this season’s Europa League. He killed the game for United.

R. Firmino – 5/10

Firmino had an average game. He saw very less of he ball and was nowhere to his performance from the first leg.

D. Sturridge – 4/10

Had a very poor performance. Was owned by Blind for most part of the match. He had a series of chances and couldn’t produce anything fruitful out of it. He took the free kick brilliantly though and hit the post.

Substitutes:

D. Origi – 5/10

Came on to replace an average looking Sturridge in the 68th minute and hardly did much. He couldn’t trouble De Gea at all. Initially passed the ball around well but completely faded away towards the end of the match.

J. Allen – 5/10

He came in to replace Jordan Henderson in the 71st minute. He was just asked to sit back and pass the ball around and he did that well.

C. Benteke – 4/10

Came on for the dying minutes of the match and hardly had any impact.
