Arsenal failed to qualify for next season’s UEFA Champions League, despite beating Everton 3-1 at the Emirates on the final day of the Premier League season.

Hector Bellerin gave Arsenal the lead early on in the game in the 8th minute, before Alexis Sanchez doubled the advantage twenty minutes later. Romelu Lukaku pulled one back in the second period to give a scare to the Gunners, but they held on before Aaron Ramsey added a third in the injury time to confirm three points.

Despite the win, Arsenal do not qualify for the next season’s UEFA Champions League as Liverpool and Manchester City won their respective fixtures on the day, thus giving Arsene Wenger’s side a 5th-placed finish in the table. Here’s how the Arsenal players fared against Everton:

Petr Cech – 7.5/10

Made plenty of good saves to keep Everton at bay. Went the right way but could not keep out Lukaku’s penalty.

Rob Holding – 7/10

Another impressive performance from the youngster. Displayed great maturity that belied his age. Has been a real positive for the Gunners this season.

Gabriel – 7/10

Looked very good at the back after being given a start instead of the unavailable Shkodran Mustafi. But was stretchered off the field in the second period.

Laurent Koscielny – 3/10

What was he thinking?! His reckless tackle on Enner Valencia earned him a straight red card. Will miss the FA Cup final at Wembley. Total lack of composure especially for a man donning the captain’s armband. That tackle when you’re 1-0 up? Bizarre!

Hector Bellerin – 8.5/10

His overlapping runs were a constant threat down the right-hand side. Showed good instincts to fire home a loose ball for the opener. Solid in defence as well.

Aaron Ramsey – 7/10

Scored the third goal and it was an absolute beauty. Showed good energy in midfield.

Granit Xhaka – 6/10

Not at his fluent best but still way better than how he started off the season. Was subbed off in the second period with the FA Cup final in mind.

Nacho Monreal – 6/10

Gave away the penalty with a blatant handball in the second period. Was restrained for most parts with his side down to 10 men.

Mesut Ozil – 8/10

Some lovely touches, neat flicks. His work-rate was exemplary on the day. His assist for Ramsey’s strike was pure class.

Alexis Sanchez – 8/10

Scored the Gunners’ second goal of the game to take his tally to 29 goals across all competition for the season. Caused several problems to the Toffees. Was taken off early as a precaution ahead of the FA Cup final.

Danny Welbeck – 6/10

Missed a tap-in chance early on in the game. Worked really hard but he is unlikely to get a nod for the final at Wembley.

Substitutes

Per Mertesacker – 7/10

Replaced the injured Gabriel in the 53rd minute. It was his first and last appearance in the league for the season. Solid during his time on the pitch.

Francis Coquelin – 6/10

Came on for Xhaka just after the hour mark. Shielded his defence well.

Alex Iwobi – 7/10

Replaced Alexis Sanchez in the 68th minute. A lively cameo.
