Why is Brendan Rodgers Yet to be Sacked by Liverpool Owners?

Share

It is bad enough for a team to get booed once in a game but Brendan Rodgers side were booed thrice in their penalty shootout win over League Two side Carlisle, this might have stopped the rot at Liverpool but a penalty shootout win over lower league opposition isn’t the most encouraging sign for Rodgers.

Things come back to haunt people and exactly three years ago Rodgers had said that he must be judged after three years, and here we are. Liverpool are directionless, spineless and have spent money alarmingly to freshen up a squad, yet again.

Brendan Rodgers

It isn’t for a lack of trying though that Liverpool have not succeeded, Rodgers for his part has mixed the formations up time after time and now plays with a back three, similar to what he had tried last season but ultimately didn’t work. Liverpool fans are growing impatient at the performances and Rodgers seems destined for the sack but FSG earlier stated that they have not sought out a replacement for Rodgers and continue to back him, but why?

Rodgers might be having a hard time since last season but we all remember how well Liverpool played in 2013 when they almost won the league, while that should not be enough to keep any manager in his job, this was the closest Liverpool had come to winning the Premier League title. Rodgers also has had to deal with his best players being sold off, in successive seasons Luis Suarez and Raheem Sterling have gone on to greener pastures and replacing their talent is not enough, although many had stated that Sterling was not pulling his weight at the club, he still had the talent to do incredible things on the pitch.

The problem also lies with the way Liverpool have invested the money in their squad, apart from Emre Can, not one Liverpool player stood out last season, Mignolet might have redeemed himself in the second half of last season but the Reds have had too many expensive flops under Rodgers time. That can be attributed to the ‘Transfer committee’ which now features Rodgers having a big say in who they bring in.

Carlo Ancelotti

It was during the second half of last season that Liverpool went on an amazing run which got them back into the hunt for the top four. They weren’t playing brilliant attacking football but they were getting the results and were looking defensively solid, until the 2-1 loss to Manchester United where Steven Gerrard was sent off and from that moment on it has been a slow and gradual slide down for the Reds.

FSG have always backed the manager that Rodgers is and he has brought a lot of good days to Liverpool but in football you are only as good as the last game you played. Rodgers is a man running out of time and unless he gets them into the top four or anywhere close to it by December, anything less than that and FSG would have to make a big decision.
