Brendan Rodgers (Liverpool) vs Jose Mourinho (Chelsea): Who Has Had A Worse Season?

Share

Two managers under huge pressure at their respective clubs, yet it seems that one of them can turn things around while another seems to be struggling to get to grips with his huge squad. Brendan Rodgers might have worked under Jose Mourinho, but the Liverpool manager is the first one to get fired after a string of average performances in both league and Europe.

Mourinho isn’t far behind though his past performances are keeping him in his current job, the Chelsea manager is currently seeing one of the worst seasons in his career and with the Blues languishing in 15th place in the league, not all is good at Stamford Bridge either.

Who can turn things around?

To be fair, neither of the managers have had a great season, the 42-year-old Rodgers might have come close to taking Liverpool to the Premier League crown a couple of seasons ago but that more and more seems like the handy work of Luis Suarez. Rodgers’ team has only won three games all season while you could count the league cup win as a draw since the teams were level until the penalty shootout.

Rodgers has not been able to unlock the attacking force that his Liverpool were known for, despite spending heavily in the market and bringing in players like Christian Benteke and Roberto Firmino.

Rodgers didn’t even know what his best team or formation is and the constant changing and chopping does have an effect on the team and their performances. Liverpool management has already made the brave decision and with international break coming up, there should enough time to lure in a top manager like Jurgen Klopp.

Jose Mourinho

Chelsea aren’t doing much better this season, Jose Mourinho’s team lie close to the bottom of the league table and have won just two out of their seven games in the league this season. They are doing slightly better in the cup competitions but all that came to an end when they were humbled by Porto in the Champions League.

Chelsea can’t seem to get anything going right at the moment, neither their attack nor defence has been up to Chelsea or Mourinho standards and that would be a worry for someone who praises his team so much, especially when they were expected to be the team to lead the league this season.

Mourinho might still have his job at the end of the season because of his previous record but if he does miss out on the Champions League, it could be goodbye to the Portuguese manager. For now, Chelsea board has decided to support Jose. A recent club statement read,

“The club wants to make it clear that Jose continues to have our full support.

As Jose has said himself, results have not been good enough and the team’s performances must improve. However, we believe that we have the right manager to turn this season around and that he has the squad with which to do it.”

It looks like both the clubs have made the correct decision at this point of time.
