Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal has insisted that goalkeeper David de Gea still has a part to play at the club, though the Spanish international was being monitored by Real Madrid for quite some time. The 24-year old superstar was kept out of the squad for the Red Devils’ opening day victory over Tottenham.
The Dutchman’s side secured all three points against Spurs, with Kyle Walker’s unfortunate own-goal being the decisive goal at Old Trafford.
Summer signing Sergio Romero was Van Gaal’s preferred choice, while De Gea sat in the stands and looked on.
Despite that, the Dutch manager has now insisted that he club do not want De Gea to leave and hopes the goalie will be back in the starting XI soon.
When asked if De Gea would play for United again, he said, “Of course.”
“We have to pay a lot of money for the players we want so we want to sell at the same level when we have to sell.”
“We want to keep him, of course. He has been voted the best player here for the last two years.”
“But we have observed [De Gea] in preparation and that was not the same David de Gea as last year.”
“Of course when the situation has been cleared after September 1 we will look again.”
