The Red Devils have been given a small transfer boost of landing their prime target this winter. James Rodriguez has been out of favor for Real Madrid and has claimed that he wants to play more football and surely Manchester United could offer him a starting place in their team.
The Colombian star arrived at the Santiago Bernabeu after his Golden Ball-winning performance at the 2014 World Cup and during his first season, he lived up to his €80 million price-tag and Galactico status. Though it hasn’t been a rosy few 18 months for James as he’s struggled to win a spot in the first team when Rafa Benitez was in charge and has also been unable to convince current boss Zinedine Zidane that he deserves a regular starting place.
It appears like the right time for James to leave Real Madird. In Real’s 23 games this year, he has started just six of them and hasn’t played in seven of them. He obviously wants plenty of minutes on the pitch, and that hasn’t been the case under Zinedine Zidane nor does it seem like it will ever be and Jose Mourinho may be able to benefit from this.
Another growing possibility of a transfer rose when James, who was an unused sub in the FIFA World Club Cup final, as Cristiano Ronaldo and co-added another title to their haul with a 4-2 win against Kashima Antlers. In an interview after the game the 25-year-old said,
“I can’t assure I will stay at Real Madrid.I have offers and seven days left to think about my future.”
Though James later added “I am happy in Madrid, but I want to play more. I have a bitter feeling as I wanted to play the final, but I am happy for the title. It’s my 15th title in my career.”
With experience and playing at the topmost level of football, being top scorer in the World Cup one would expect James to fit into almost any side in the world. But despite putting in a string of good performances it is sad to see him come off the bench or not feature in many games.
But just because he has ultimately failed at Madrid does not mean he would not be a success at any of the Premier League’s top clubs. If he does move in January he could hit the ground running, and play a key role in the English league with Manchester United. As Premier League leaders Chelsea are also looking to purchase the attacking midfielder from Madrid hoping to bolster their attack to surge for the title.
