Predicted Wolves Line-up To Take On Manchester City In The Carabao Cup

The Championship leaders overcame Bristol Rovers by the skin of their teeth in the last round but are more likely to play a full strength side here. This is Nuno Espirito Santo’s chance to pit his wits against superstar coach Pep Guardiola and the all-conquering Man City side, though the hosts may rest several key players.

Wolves’ easing off in the latter part of their game against Preston (3-2 win) was most likely due to this upcoming game and I’d expect them to last this one much better. The coach should probably stick with his 5-2-3 / 3-4-3 formation using the following familiar XI:

Formation: 3-4-3

Manager: Nuno Espirito Santo

GK – John Ruddy

Still capable of playing a Premier League level, Ruddy is unlikely to let his side down in this such an important cup tie.

CB – Danny Batth

Another player who is likely to be comfortable enough at the top level, Batth will have a tough night against Man City’s forward line and he’d be hoping to keep it tight at the back.

Danny Batth

CB – Conor Coady

The ex-midfield player will be looking to make amends, having scored an own goal at the weekend, which made for a nervous finish to the game.

CB – Roderick Miranda

The quality Portuguese defender will need to be at his best here, but he does not look like a player who would allow nerves to get the better of him.

RWB – Matt Doherty

I think Doherty will struggle with Man City’s pace and trickery out wide, but I do hope I’m wrong and a strong performance from him can help make this one a contest.

LWB – Barry Douglas

Although it’ll be a struggle defensively, Douglas could probably make the most impact in this game by remaining unafraid to get forward and causing problems to City down the left.

Ruben Neves

CM – Ruben Neves

Neves’ career is moving fast and this game is important for him in order to prove to the wider football world that he belongs at the top level in this country.

CM – Romain Saiss

Neves’ usual partner should start again. Any change in this sort of position could well be fatal for the visitors.

RW – Ivan Cavaleiro

As predicted, Cavaleiro’s versatility was put to good use by the boss in moving him out to the right on Saturday to cover Helder Costa.

Leo Bonatini

LW – Diogo Jota

Another versatile Portuguese forward, Jota was given a little breather at the weekend and should come out all guns blazing here.

ST – Leo Bonatini

A double for Bonatini at the weekend showed his prowess and the Brazilian will be given the chance to put one past the Premier League’s meanest defence.
