Best And Worst Rated Arsenal Players vs Hull City: Elneny Dictated The Midfield Play

Arsenal Player Ratings vs Hull City

Hull City earned a replay against Arsenal after a well-fought 0-0 at The Emirates Stadium. The Premier League side failed to turn their dominance into a victory and now they must play an extra game in an already busy month of football.

Arsenal had two strong penalty claims turned away by the referee; firstly after Alex Bruce blocked a shot using his arm and then Arsenal right-back Calum Chambers was brought down in the area but Mike Dean waved away both appeals.

The Gunners will be disappointed not to have turned the dominance in possession into a win and they had good chances to win the game only for Hull’s second-choice goalkeeper Eldin Jakupovic who made some outstanding saves. Theo Walcott and Danny Welbeck both had great chances but once again Eldin Jakupovic kept them out. His best save came from Joel Campbell’s free-kick as his fingertip save helped the ball on to a post. Hull didn’t create too many chances, with Meyler hitting a shot into the side netting but defended brilliantly to keep Arsenal out. Here we will rate the performances of the Arsenal team.

David Ospina – 6/10

The goalkeeper didn’t have too much to do however he looked vulnerable when Hull put crosses and corners into the danger area.

Calum Chambers – 7/10

The right-back used his strength down the right side to get some good balls into the box. His defensive work wasn’t regularly needed, giving him the freedom to create havoc in the opposition’s half.

Per Mertesacker – 7/10

The captain had an easy afternoon against a very defensive-minded Hull team.

Laurent Koscielny – 6/10

The Frenchman was lucky not to have been sent off against Hull. He made three yellow card worthy tackles but referee Mike Dean let him off the hook.

Kieran Gibbs – 7/10

Gibbs was given a rare start against Hull and did a good job. Similar to Chambers, Gibbs made regular runs forward and wasn’t often tested defensively.

Mathieu Flamini – 7/10

Flamini performed a solid role in front of the back four and had a good passing accuracy during the game.

Mohamed Elneny – 8/10

The midfielder was making only his second start for The Gunners and he put in a stand out performance for Arsenal. He was always available for the ball in midfield and helped dictate play for Arsenal.

Joel Campell 7/10

The wingers best moment of the game was his brilliant free-kick which was well saved by Jakupovic.

Alex Iwobi – 7/10

The 19-year-old found plenty of space behind striker Theo Walcott to attempt through balls in an attempt to break down a stubborn Hull City defence.

Danny Welbeck 7/10

Making his first start since returning from a serious injury, Welbeck can be proud of his contribution. He will be frustrated not to have scored but it was another good performance from the England international.

Theo Walcott 7/10

Walcott had some good chances for Arsenal but like Welbeck, he was kept out by the brilliance of Hull goalkeeper Jakupovic. He provides a different attacking option from Arsenal’s other forwards.
