Edin Dzeko Could Be Deployed Instead Of Alvaro Morata And Here Is Why It Can Work Wonders For Chelsea

Chelsea are edging closer to completing a £29m move for AS Roma striker Edin Dzeko and this has come across as good news for the fans, who are understandably frustrated with Alvaro Morata’s lack of impact in front of the goal. The former Real Madrid star arrived at Stamford Bridge last summer and has been subjected to a lot of scrutinies since then. Although he showed encouraging signs after an initial phase of struggle, it seems like his influence has diminished once more.

In recent times, the player has missed out on Chelsea’s emphatic 4-0 win against Brighton and did not feature in the Carabao Cup match against Arsenal as well. Batshuayi has been the club’s backup striker even though Antonio Conte does not seem to harbour much trust in him. However, once Dzeko completes his move, could Morata be pushed down the pecking order?

It is a likely scenario and given the current state of the fans, they might be happy with it too. In fact, a lot of fans took to Twitter to express their joy at the fact that Morata was sidelined for the game against Brighton.

To make matters worse, the way he behaved during Chelsea’s FA Cup clash against Norwich City did not earn him any favours either. Hence, Conte might be propelled to utilise Dzeko as the central striker once the former Manchester City star completes the move.

Dzeko’s performances are much more refined and he has prior Premier League experience as well. Moreover, he has put in some prolific displays for the Italian side. Whether or not Chelsea are considering Morata as a long-term solution remains to be seen but at present, they need somebody who can go out there and score goals. To that extent, Dzeko seems like the ultimate option. Even if Conte were to deploy Eden Hazard as the secondary striker behind him, there is no doubt that the duo could work wonders.

Perhaps bringing in Dzeko will provide a competitive boost to Morata’s performances. This season, the 31-year-old striker has netted more goals than the Spaniard and that goes on to show that Chelsea are in dire need of bringing the Roma frontman to Stamford Bridge.

The Blues seem settled in the top-three for now but given how unpredictable this season has been so far, they will need to increase their efforts to achieve a strong finish and perhaps utilising Dzeko ahead of Morata will take them one step closer to doing so.
