According to a report from Daily Express, Barcelona are closing in towards signing PSG’s Neymar Jr, with the report claiming that the Parisians are demanding a players-plus-cash deal for the wantaway star.
The deal would see Ivan Rakitic and Ousmane Dembele as the makeweights for Neymar’s return to Nou Camp.
Another report from Evening Standard states that Barca are willing to take the Brazilan forward with a loan status whilst PSG are upholding against their interests.
The 27-year-old’s transfer saga has clearly taken its toll on fans and critics alike but should the Catalans bite the bullet and bring him back?
Undoubtedly, Neymar has lived up to his billing in the Ligue 1 and quickly became an integral part of the capital club.
Regardless of the controversies that he faced off the field, his performances on the field remained unhinged.
To be precise, he has amassed a total of 51 goals and 29 assists in 58 games, an awe-inspiring stat for a player who often went missing due to injuries.
However, his return to Nou Camp has shortcomings. Firstly, the abundance of forwards in the current Barca squad – including the likes of Ousmane Dembele, Alex Collado, Carles Perez and the newly-bought Antoine Griezmann – makes Neymar no more a fruitful addition.
The aforementioned names also received a warm reception from the Nou Camp faithful, owing to their impressive displays in pre-season.
Dembele, in particular, who was bought from Dortmund to fill the shoes of Neymar, hasn’t gotten off to a promising start. That said, doubting his immense potential seems rather silly. Furthermore, his young age is another factor to be considered for the club’s long-term future.
Neymar’s career so far – whether it is with the Catalans or PSG – encapsulates a litany of injuries which should be another factor that provides food for thought for the La Liga giants.
