Barcelona are set to promote reserves defender Moussa Wague after making a few cameos in the recently concluded season.
Ernesto Valverde counted on two primary right-backs Sergi Roberto and Nelson Semedo throughout this campaign and didn’t opt for an extra option. Both the full-backs endured a lackadaisical season, as they failed to spark off any great impact down the flanks.
Roberto, 28, was used more as an utility player under Valverde, while the Portuguese international Semedo found himself as an unassured starter.
With the former Benfica man getting linked with a move away from Nou Camp, the Catalans will be forced to find a quality right-back who can contribute to the club’s long-term future.
And the Blaugrana don’t have to look elsewhere if they are aware of Wague, who is poised for a great future ahead.
The Senegalese youngster has already achieved an incredible feat with his national team, as he became the youngest ever African to Score in a FIFA World Cup last year. He has earned 14 international caps until now but he is yet to make his mark with the La Liga champions.
Having been a regular for the reserves, Wague enjoyed a great campaign, bagging a 5-goal tally. Furthermore, his incredible performances also led to praise from the Spanish manager.
The 21-year-old has strong technical skills, great pace down the flanks and the intent to contribute for the side’s attacking third, without keeping his defensive abilities intact. And the Camp Nou faithful were able to catch a glimpse of his class even with the limited appearances this season.

Barca ended their campaign in the worst way possible, letting go of their chances to achieve the treble. Now, they are preparing for reinforcements as they look to contend for Champions League glory next season.
With several players from the reserves being expected to earn promotion to the first-team, Wague should be on top of the list.
