Why Aston Villa must keep hold of Albert Adomah beyond summer

According to a report in Northern Echo, Middlesbrough were keeping close tabs on Aston Villa winger Albert Adomah for a possible January move. Tony Pulis wants more strength in the wide attacking area and that explains him keeping close tabs on a player who once used to play in the Teesside.

Boro made a last-ditch attempt to sign the winger during the summer transfer window in August, as the 30-year-old indicated his preference to return to his former club. However, talks collapsed, leaving Pulis a frustrated man over the lack of wide attacking options. (Northern Echo)

Hence, the former West Brom boss should keep his options open to make a signing or two in the winter window. But, as per the latest updates, Aston Villa manager Dean Smith has insisted that the player won’t leave at the turn of this year. Here’s why this is the correct decision and why the Birmingham-based club should keep the Ghanaian beyond next summer as well:

Adomah’s quality is vivid in the Championship

Albert Adomah is one of the top-class wingers in the Championship circuit. His propensities on the ball and ability to make probing runs behind defenders are fantastic, to say the least. He was a bit out of form at the start of this season but has picked up in the last few weeks, especially after the change in management.

His versatility enables him to play on either wing and that would be fruitful to any manager. The 30-year-old has delivered key passes at the rate of 1.1 in 15 appearances this season, supplying two assists as well. He has a great turn of pace on the counter and can dribble past defenders in a flash.

Moreover, Adomah is now an experienced footballer with a grave know-how of helping the team out whenever required. He is sure to play a key part in Villa’s push for promotion this season. Hence, it is understandable as to why Dean Smith has rejected any proposal for the player to move mid-season.

In fact, the quality and experience which Adomah possesses should prompt Villa to keep him beyond next summer. His current contract ends in the summer of 2020 but the Villans must offer him a new deal sooner rather than later to keep a distance from potential suitors.
