Ashley Williams to Arsenal? What A Signing That Would Be

The team that is supposed to pull off some miracles in the upcoming transfer season is Arsenal, with the club management sanctioning a £70m transfer kitty to Wenger. It is quite natural that the Gunners boss will be looking to rejuvenate his team in a number of departments, one of the primaries being the defence. Arsenal’s defence has been quite inconsistent throughout the whole campaign and in summer they are certain to add on a number of players to their backline, a right back, a centre back and a goalkeeper to name a few. One of their main targets this season will definitely be Ashley Williams.

The Swansea City defender has had two consecutive impressive seasons for his club, which has made him a hot property right now. Liverpool were also monitoring the Wales captain but William’s former manager Brendan Rodgers, who holds him in high regard, has been restrained by the transfer committee to sign him because of his age. Williams turns 29 in August, making Swansea’s asking price of £10m seem too high. Arsenal also value him at £8m but may still pursue, because of their immediate need of quality defenders. Arsenal are also looking for a replacement of Thomas Vermaelen, who is supposed to leave the club in the summer.

Williams is an ideal Premier League defender with a certain physicality which allows him to make strong challenges. He his strong in the air, an aspect that Arsenal would be looking forward to, for they have struggled from set pieces a lot this season. He can provide Arsenal with the leadership they sometimes lack in their defence and make them a lot organised. If he can improve on his disciplinary record a bit, he will turn out to be a one of the top recruits for Arsenal.

If reports are to be believed, the talks are in advanced stage between the player and the club and soon Arsenal will be able to seal this transfer.
