Chelsea and England Left back Ashley Cole was touted to leave the Blues after he was only offered a one year contract by club owner Roman Abramovich. But the Blues remain confident that the player will stay at Stamford Bridge and and will extend his current contract which expires at the end of the next season. But according to sources close to the player, Cole will stay at the Bridge, only if the deal is more than a year.
Ashley Cole to remain at Stamford BridgeThe new plan to shed out players who are above 30, is because of the desire shown by Roman Abramovich to capture the Premier league trophy, which is the only major trophy left to win under Abramovich’s era. The talks are said to be ongoing and there is quiet confidence between both parties that a deal will eventually be struck for a player who has been influential in Chelsea’s success.
Chelsea have already found Cole’s long term successor in the form of Ryan Bertrand, who recently signed a new long term contract which will keep him at Stamford Bridge until 2017.
