Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger gave his usual pre-match press conference ahead of Arsenal’s encounter with Bayern Munich tonight, where the boss admitted that his side has a chance to beat Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena.
Wenger also asked for a ‘fair chance’ to finish the game with 11 men in Allianz Arena. Ever since the 2006 Champions League final, Arsenal had to play with 10 men on many occasions and some due to the error from referees which Wenger hopes to avoid tonight.
“I hope tomorrow we will get a fair chance to play with 11 versus 11 until the end.”
“What you want is a good referee,” he said. “I think the closer they are to a tough league, the more chances they have to detect the tricks that can decide a game. But that’s the same for Bayern.
“I speak about my players and the Bayern players. What I mean is sometimes when you come from a league that is less pacy league.
“I don’t know the referee. Honestly, I never look at the referee before the game. I never have any preconceived ideas.
“Sometimes when the referees have a big experience it helps them to get out of tricky situations.
“I think you do not want players to stay on the pitch who deserve to be sent off but you do not as well the interests of the game to be killed for reasons that are a bit tricky. To find that kind of balance, the experience of the referees is important.”
Following Wenger, Arsenal Captain Mikel Arteta gave his insights on the game and claimed that “any game can we won 2-0”.
Finally, talking about the team news, Wenger said:
“We have lost Kieran Gibbs from the squad on Saturday with an ankle problem.Laurent Koscielny is back in the squad, so the only change in the squad is Koscielny for Gibbs.”
on Vermaelen playing at left back…
That is a possibility.
