It was a pleasant surprise when French International Olivier Giroud made his return to the training ground a fortnight ago, much before his scheduled return, which was not until Jan 2015. Danny Welbeck, who was bought on the deadline day has been leading the Gunners attack since then and has been doing a decent job in his first season with Arsenal. Giroud made a substitute appearance last week and scored a wonder goal against Mancehster United boosting Arsenal’s attack ahead of the Business end of the campaign.
However, Giroud has been left out of the Arsenal UCL squad and would miss the tie against Dortmund tonight and the last group stage game against Galatasaray. Arsène Wenger who gave the pre-match press conference says Olivier Giroud‘s return was not expected by the club.
Wenger explained: “Exactly [we presumed his injury would mean he wouldn’t be available].
“At the time, we bought Danny Welbeck and we had to put him on the list.
“Giroud was supposed to be unavailable for the qualifying group stage and we put him out.
“He is coming back early and that is good news, but of course he’s not on the list of the 25 selected players.”
