Arsenal’s Jack Wilshere Blasts Jamie Redknapp After ‘reckless’ Criticism

Share

“I can’t see him getting a game at the moment. Jack Wilshere’s problem is Jack Wilshere. He’s not performing. He’s got to take games by the scruff of the neck like two years ago, there’s no excuses anymore.” said Jamie Redknapp while punditing for Sky Sports recently.

The retired footballer’s comments have seemingly hurt the England International as he responded to his comments following England’s 1-0 win over Norway.

”I heard what Robbie Savage said and that was, if you like, the first ex-player to give me constructive criticism. I respected that. I’ll take criticism. I know that’s part and parcel of football. But when it’s just reckless and aggressive, I don’t listen.”

With all due respect, I think Redknapp should have some sympathy and understanding.

“It’s easy for someone to go on television and say: ‘He should be doing this, he should be doing that’. But, if you look back, he was injured just as much as I was. Maybe more than I was.

And he was never injured at my age as well, it takes a lot of mental strength to come back

So to hear people go on TV and say: ‘He’s got to be doing this or that,’ I don’t need that.

“I listen to people like the boss here, Gary Neville, people who talk a lot of sense and can help me with my game.”

His performances back in 2011 against Barcelona and against Switzerland in England colors are still his best 90 minutes till date. It is true that Wilshere has not reached the levels that was expected when he first burst on to the scene for the Gunners. Although his progress has been affected with various injury concerns, his off the field bevaiour has created a negative spiral over his image.
