Arsenal Vs Tottenham: Player Ratings + Extended Highlights

WOJCIECH SZCZESNY:

Had a quiet day at office having been called into action very rarely. He had to be on his toes and pulled off a good save when Emmanuel Adebayor took a snap shot but was helpless against Nacer Chadli’s tidy shot which led to the goal.

RATING: 2.5/5

PER MERTASACKER:

Has been looking pretty slow in recent matches and continued the trend when he was exposed during Tottenham’s few and rare counter-attacks. Best moment of the game was that wonderful header on target and was unlucky to be denied by a wonderful save by Hugo Lloris.

LAURENT KOSCIELNY:

Gave a solid and composed performance. While his fellow centre-back struggled, the Frenchman held his nerve and always succeeded to break up the Spurs’ attacks, including Jan Verthonghen’s dangerous move late into the game.

KIERAN GIBBS:

One of the many Arsenal players who gave the Spurs’ defenders all sort of problems with his pace. Looked menacing all throughout the game and was a constant threat through the left. Did a good job at the back as well. Gibbs proved yet again, why Arsenal needs him to stay fit and play more matches consistently.

CALUM CHAMBERS:

A solid outing for the youngster. In addition to his defensive work, he was good in attack as well; with a long-range volley from him almost going in. But 4 yellow cards already highlight his discipline issues which he will surely improve.

MIKEL ARTETA:

There’s nothing more disappointing for a player than to be subbed off early into the match with an injury. Arteta was doing a good job until he was withdrawn, with a pass accuracy of 100% and Spurs not able to create anything in the 30 minutes he was on the pitch. A disappointing outing for the Arsenal captain.

JACK WILSHERE:

Yet another Arsenal player whose pace was almost too much for Spurs to handle. Made a complex left-central interchanging role look so easy, with his fluidic play and chemistry with Mesut Ozil. The injury scare meant he was withdrawn before full-time, but a good outing for the Englishman nevertheless.

AARON RAMSEY:

An extremely bad day for the Welshman by his standards.He never looked at ease from the outset- losing possession a few times and a poor attempt on goal. The injury brought an abrupt end to his awful day, depriving him of any chance to create any further impact.

MESUT OZIL:

Looks more confident since being allowed to play in a more central role. Was always good on the ball and showed all the signs of returning to form. One of the best players on the ground during the match.

ALEX-OXLADE CHAMBERLAIN:

Having been chosen over Alexis Sanchez in the starting line-up, Chamberlain justified his selection by giving Danny Rose all sorts of trouble with his running and deservedly scored the winner. Was simply excellent.

DANNY WELBECK:

Worked extremely hard and was impressive in the first half, but his performance dipped in the second half. His defensive work-rate and constant pressurizing of the opposition defenders was praiseworthy, but he fluffed all of it and made a joke of himself with the miscued shot leading to Arsenal’s equalizer.

MATHIEU FLAMINI:

Was the culprit behind Spurs’ goal, losing possession cheaply in a dangerous area inside his own half. Did a decent job for the rest of the match, but his slip-up proved extremely costly for the side and is all that shall be remembered.

SANTI CAZORLA:

As always, looked good in possession. The combo of Cazorla- Ozil- Sanchez- Gibbs looked enticing in the last few minutes and Cazorla stated his claim for a starting role, with a shot-on-target that was deflected and finally ended in Arsenal’s equalizer.

ALEXIS SANCHEZ:

Looked sloppy in possession, miscuing a few touches which if were perfect could have opened up chances.  Worked out some attractive football from the left-side during the last few minutes, along with Ozil and Cazorla.

HUGO LLORIS:

Had a fabulous match. Easily Spurs’ Man of the Match with some exquisite shot-stopping, especially the save off Mertsacker’s header and off Vertonghen’s deflection gave Spurs’ a valuable point.

YOUNES KABOUL:

An inspiring performance from the Tottenham captain. Made several crucial blocks to cut off dangerous Arsenal attacks and was seen desperately trying to raise his team’s morale. Struggled a bit to match Arsenal’s pace though.

JAN VERTONGHEN:

Nowhere near the performances from his first season at Tottenham. Was troubled by the speed of the Arsenal attacks and was caught out quite often. Was saved the blushes on two occasions- one, when a shot dangerously deflected off him was brilliantly saved off the line by Lloris and two, when his counter-attack in the dying minutes of the game fizzled away and gave Arsenal a platform to counter, but was parried to safety.

RATING: 2/5

DANNY ROSE:

Had a tough time defending against Chamberlain. Was outrun several times, and could neither provide anything going front. Disappointing overall.

KYLE NAUGHTON:

Looked good in the first half, but performance dipped in the second half, as a barrage of Arsenal attacks started to come from his side. His performance highlights why Spurs need Kyle Walker as soon as possible.

RYAN MASON:

The debutant was one of Spurs’ better players of the day. He and Lamela were the only ones who were not reluctant to make the runs into the Arsenal half. Need to keep possession better and improve his passing though.

ETIENNE CAPOUE:

Acting like a 5^th defender, Capoue rarely provided anything in attack, but stood strong against the sea of Arsenal attacks, with 5 tackles and interceptions each.

RATING:3 /5

NACER CHADLI:

Was wasteful and ineffective until his goal. Missed one of Spurs’ best chances with a loose and wayward shot in the first half. However, the goal was neatly finished.

RATING: 2.5/5

CHRISTIAN ERIKSEN:

Except for a free-kick and the tackle to get the ball off Flamini which culminated in the goal, Eriksen was not even in the picture. Have not found his form under Pochettino and the game against Arsenal was one of his worst of the season so far.

ERIC LAMELA:

Even though wasteful in possession, Lamela was the only one in the Spurs’ side who showed some intent to attack. With none of his teammates for support though, Lamela’s moves upfront almost always turned out ineffective. Provided the assist for Chadli’s goal with a neat pass.

RATING: 2.5/5

EMMANUEL ADEBAYOR:

Never looked like a centre-forward, always drifting away to the side. Could not create any sort of impact. Only decent moment was the one shot that forced a save off Szczesny, but even that might have just hit the post.

AARON LENNON:

Was introduced to counter Arsenal’s pace but he does not seem to have it anymore. Could not create any sort of impact despite his experience of 17 North London derbies before.

RATING: 1.5/5

NABIL BENTALEB:

The young Algerian looked much assured than most of his teammates, and was solid in the limited pitch time he got.

ERIC DIER:

Dropped to the bench for Kyle Naughton, Dier looked better than him defensively after coming on for Rose late in the game. Would have been a better choice over Naughton to start at right-back.
