Arsenal vs Manchester United: Best Combined XI

As Arsenal will try their best to break the jinx of not having beaten Manchester United for almost 4 years, we try to find the best team created by using players from both the clubs. Arsenal have been in good form lately, and Man Utd haven’t been at their best, but have been getting the points in the bag, in fact very consistently this season. We look at this game as something which Arsenal will seriously target, as it is an opportunity for a trophy winning run while Man Utd  would want their points-collecting form to be strong and the jinx to hold true. Here is the Combined XI:

Goalkeeper: David De Gea (Man Utd)

David De Gea

Without a shade of doubt, the United goalkeeper makes this list. He has consistently been among the best keepers in the league based on form, if not the best. He has singlehandedly saved United from dropping points and has given confidence to the defense.

Defence: Phil Jones (Man Utd)

Arsenal play with an inexperienced Right Back in Hector Bellerin. United have a good player in Phil Jones who has played various defensive positions. He makes those occasional mistakes but has been crucial in the team.

Defence: Laurent Koscielny (Arsenal)

He has been the real leader at the back for the Gunners and has been in decent form. He brings solidity, movement and also passing ability to Arsenal’s defense and keeps the defense tight with his aggression.

Defence: Per Mertesacker (Arsenal)

The German is experienced and is the Captain of the Arsenal team in the absence of Arteta. He has been in lukewarm form this season with some crucial errors and some serious let downs, but he still remains Arsenal’s second best central defender.

Midfield: Santi Cazorla (Arsenal)

Cazorla has been the main man in the midfield with his passing and movement to keep the play going. He has been in strong form since mid season and has stepped up well when moved slightly deeper in midfield.

Midfield: Daley Blind (Man Utd)

He controls the defensive midfield for the Red Devils with his passing and vision from a deep position. He has good defensive discipline to maintain his position and break up play in a clean manner. He is a very crucial player for Man Utd.

Midfield: Mesut Ozil (Arsenal)

The Arsenal star has been in fine form since his return from the injury. He has been decisive though without being the chief playmaker for the Gunners. He has recorded great running distances as well.

Midfield: Ashley Young (Man Utd)

The Englishman has been in great form and has been one of the most consistent players under Van Gaal. His rise to form has been refreshing as he has shown us how dangerous he can be when he runs in at defenses with his speed runs. A player to watch out for Arsenal’s back four consisting of novice Bellerin and slow Mertesacker.

Forward: Wayne Rooney (Man Utd)

Rooney

He may play in midfield, but he is technically a forward. He is likely to play ahead, and has shown that he scores goals when played ahead. A great player and leader, would be a danger man for Arsenal. Rooney has the ability to score any type of goal and he is someone who would relish a battle with the central defender.

Forward: Alexis Sanchez (Arsenal)

After seven games without a goal, Alexis scored against QPR and would want to start being prolific once more. This game is tailor-made for the big players to step up. Sanchez would pose a great threat using his pace, work rate and his finishing.

Forward: Olivier Giroud (Arsenal)

He has been in good goalscoring form and would be a key man for Arsenal when they face Man United. Giroud has shown the flair that Arsene Wenger wants in his forwards, as he is not so predictable as he was when he was new to English football.
