Arsenal Plot A Surprise Move To Sign This Barcelona Star

Share

With Gabriel and Per Mertesacker injured Arsenal are looking for defensive cover in an inflated market. Everything would be fine if the Gunners were willing to pay according to the market standard but with Arsene Wenger’s frugal approach things look a bit difficult for them.

However, SFR Sport have revealed that the Gunners are plotting a surprise (and bargain) move for Barcelona center back Jeremy Mathieu. The player joined Barcelona two years ago for a £17.2 million deal. Since then Mathieu has made 75 appearances and with his current age, 32, has little hope of getting a regular chance at the Blaugrana team. Arsenal will face Liverpool on Sunday while the deal is extremely unlikely by then the Gunners are considering approaching for the player.

Liverpool are also interested in Mathieu and Besiktas too were near a deal but the political situation in Turkey stopped it. Arsenal fans need not worry much about Brexit affecting this deal, though.
