Arsenal Injury Update: Walcott Set For A Return Against Southampton

Arsenal speedster, Theo Walcott has been sidelined with a stomach injury since September and missed out on several crucioal games for the Gunners. It was in a 2-1 win over Marseille, during which he played his last game and after an 8 week gap, the England International is all set for the first team return.

Arsenal face Southampton next week and the Saints could be on course for a reunion with one of their former academy starlets next weekend – reports Dailyecho and several other sources. Arsenal although have managed to play fairly well without the their prime wingman, lacked width against more compact teams and were not effective in counter attacks. Walcott’s return could give them an additional option in-front goal and with the likes of Ozil and Cazorla to place pin point balls to his feet, the England International should be able to capitalize on.

As expertly pointed out by former Arsenal man Ray Parlour, Arsenal are missing the width which Theo Walcott provides.

“One thing when you look at the Arsenal team is that they do sometimes need a bit of that width on the right side.

“A lot of the players look to cut inside and prefer that middle area. Sometimes you do need that pace that Theo Walcott can bring to a team.”

Walcott might not start the Southampton clash, but will definitely be involved in the game and it will be interesting to see how he performs against the Premier League’s meanest defence.
