Arsene Wenger sat down for his customary pre-match press conference ahead of the Borussia Dortmund clash last night and gave the latest team news available to play in the opening Champions League fixture.
Arsenal are already missing their first choice right back Mathieu Debuchy leaving the likes of Chambers, Bellerin or even Flamini to slot in in his absence. As reported by the club’s official website, Wenger confirmed about the set back to Nacho Monreal, who has been covering the left back position in Gibbs’ absence.
“Monreal didn’t travel and we have a little problem with Chambers but he should be alright. Monreal has a back problem, he should be available on Friday. We’ll assess Chambers tomorrow morning. At the moment he’s 50/50 with tonsillitis.”
“Apart from that everyone is here, I don’t think I forget anybody apart from Debuchy, who is out for a longer period. Sanogo stayed at home as well with a little hamstring problem.”
We are yet to know the exact date on Debuchy’s return as his scan results are yet to come, which is expected by the end of the day.
On a positive note, Kieran Gibbs has been training with the first team and is poised to start tonight giving a little respite for Wenger, who has major concerns at right back. There is a possibility that youngster Hector Bellerin might be involved, with Wenger saying, “He is ready to play”.
Mikel Arteta who made it to the bench for the City game after a month on the sidelines may start ahead of Flamini as Wenger prefers the Spaniard’s calmness at the center of the park more than the tough tackling French man.
