Arsenal are checking on Belgian goalkeeper Guillaume Hubert and have sent scouts to watch the 22-year-old in action according to a report from Belgian news outlet HLN.be. Hubert has made 33 appearances for Standard Liege since making his debut for the club back in 2012 but has consistently been linked with a transfer to the Premier League in recent times.
Petr Cech is tied into a contract at the Emirates until the summer of 2019 but it’s understood Arsene Wenger is eyeing possible replacements for the 34-year-old.
Representatives from the north London club were in Belgium at the weekend as he played for Standard Liege in their 2-2 draw with Gent.
Hubert is 6ft 6in, has been capped at Under-21 level and is pushing for a call-up to Roberto Martinez’s national side. It was the sixth time this season Arsenal had a representative at one of Standard’s games with Hubert tipped to make a step up in level.
However, Arsene Wenger faces stiff competition from Liverpool, Leicester and Swansea as they have all shown interest in Hubert, who is valued at around £5million.
David Ospina is also keen on a move away from London and it could mean the end for Wojciech Szczesny at the Emirates if Arsenal do land Hubert as he would be considered a long term plan for Wenger.
The Polish international is currently on loan in Italy with Roma, and the Serie A outfit is believed to be keen to tie up the 26-year-old on a permanent deal.
