Arsenal, Manchester United and City are a few of the European giants who are interested in Borussia Dortmund’s Marco Rues. Arsenal have been watching Rues closely for sometime now and were on the lookout for the winger during the Summer window as well. However, Jurgen Klopp managed to keep him at the Signal Iduna park and the German International has had a impressive start to his season so far.
Rues’ current contract ends at 2017, but after recent reports claiming his release clasue £29.4 million, several clubs including Arsenal and Manchester United could step up their pursuit for the sort out German attacker.
With interest mounting in Reus ahead of the January transfer window, Dortmund’s executive Hans-Joachim Watzke confirmed a clause does exist in the midfielder’s contract.
“Marco Reus possesses a release clause option in his current contract at our club,” Watzke told SPORT1media. He could leave our club due to that. He is, however, the only player in our first-team squad that has such a contract clause.”
Watzke only stated last month that Dortmund were not looking to sell Reus and hoped he would not follow the same path of Mario Gotze, who left to join Bayern Munich in the summer when his release clause was triggered.
The Premier League trio, however, will face a battle to convince Reus to leave Westfalenstadion as he only recently pledged his future to the club. (DailyStar)
Although it is difficult to see why Dortmund will sell Rues, but the £29.4 m release clause looks to be a figure that the Gunners would be willing to pay for someone who has the capability to take the game on his hands and win it single handedly.
