Arsenal FC: Pointing Out The Highlights In Another Mediocre Season

Share

It has been a highly discussed factor that the last season has been very much of a low point in Arsene Wenger’s career as an Arsenal manager in many years. The season that started with the departure of Robin Van Persie to Manchester United, ended with Arsenal just toiling through to the fourth spot in league, thus gaining a qualification in Champions League. Wenger’s transfer activity, or the lack of it, was highly criticised about among the fans and the media. Last but not the least, their celebration on the final day of the Premier League after attaining the fourth spot was lashed by a section of the media and it reflected the compromised ambitions of the club. But still, among all these adversaries, there have a few highlighting points this season for the club and here we look at three such points.

Introduction of Cazorla

Santi Cazorla has been one heck of a player in the league this season and this practically unknown midfielder outside Spain, has made his debut season remarkable. He has taken no time to get adjusted in the Premier League and has been effective for the Gunners from day one. If Arsenal are to compete for the trophies once more, then Cazorla must take a lot of pressure upon him and Arsene Wenger must be given adequate credit for introducing us to such a prolific midfielder in the English game.

Reinvention of Walcott

Initially the relationship between Walcott and the club was not going smooth and the player was refusing to sign the contract even after repeated requests. But ultimately he obliged and started getting featured regularly on the first team. And from then on he has been stupendous for the club. One of the prospects for Arsenal to look forward to must be this player who has been deployed by his manager on the right side, cutting inside and scoring. From this point Theo Walcott can only go better and Arsenal would have a tremendous player in him in the next couple of seasons. Although his performances went down in the later parts of the season, the Winger has enjoyed the most successful season of his career and it can only get better from this point.

Recovery of Wilshere

After a long absence from the game due to injury, Jack Wishere finally returned to the pitch and showed everyone why he is being considered the next big thing in English football. It was unbelievable how much pressure he managed to handle and at times practically operated proceedings single handedly from the midfield. Considering, this was his comeback season, he can be an absolute treat to watch in the future and Arsenal would have a genuine match winner in him.

Injuries have again taken a toll on the midfielder and he is set to undergo another operation. If everything goes well, next season could be the first of what promises to be a breath taking career ahead.
