Arsenal And Chelsea Stars Feature In The Premier League Team Of The Week

Share

As another week of Premier League football passes, we look at the top performers this round.

Goalkeeper: Wojicech Sczcesny

The Arsenal goalkeeper kept his side in the game with a flurry of wonderful saves. Without his stability at the back this season Arsenal would not find themselves in the same league position, as the Gunners continue to set the pace in the Premier League.

Right-Back: Seamus Coleman

The Irish International ripped Stoke’s left side to shreds at times as the Toffees ran out 4-0 winners against Mark Hughes’ men. Usually one of Everton’s fringe players, Coleman will be looking at getting a run of regular game-time under Martinez if he keeps up his performances.

Centre-Back: John Terry

A huge error by midfielder Michael Essien let Southampton take the lead in the 12th second, although it wasn’t just the Ghanaian’s fault, Terry and Cahill were both a little slow to react, a problem Terry never had in his earlier career. With a goal and an otherwise solid defensive performance, Terry might not be done just yet.

Centre-Back: Laurent Koscielny

The Arsenal man is proving himself worthy of the Arsenal starting berth and in current form is the best defender in the Premier League. Cleaned up the mess made by Kieran Gibbs on more than one occasion, like a good defender should. A big part of Arsenal’s clean sheet, he has become the defender everyone was hoping for.

Left-Back: Brian Oviedo

Another Everton man makes the list, swapped wings with Coleman and spread out play wonderfully. A more than able replacement for the injured Leighton Baines.

Centre-Midfield: Aaron Ramsey

Arsenal midfielder Aaron Ramsey has been on a meteoric rise this season and the Welshman doesn’t look like slowing down any time soon. 2 goals against his former club Cardiff City gets him his place on the list. Another tireless display from the Wales international is making him look more like the new Gilberto Silva every passing week.

Centre-Midfield: Ramires

Chelsea midfielder Ramires continued his good form with a glowing display against surprise package Southampton. The former Benfica man is proving himself as the best midfielder enforcer in the Premier League, and is reminiscent of a young Michael Essien. Without his assurance and stability in front of the defence, the night could have gotten very ugly very quickly for the Blues.

Right Attacking Midfield: Gerard Deulofeu

The Barcelona man has grew into what the Catalans were hoping during his loan spell at Everton. Wonderful dribbling ability mixed with a great passing range has made the young Spaniard one of the brightest prospects in the Premier League.

Centre Attacking Midfield: Mesut Ozil

The previously misfiring German has returned to form with the Gunners after a wonderful display against giant killers Cardiff City. Assisting the first goal and playing a part in every attacking move the North Londoners made is typical of the former Real Madrid man. With form like this Ozil takes on Luis Suarez and Eden Hazard for the title of the Premier League’s best player.

Left Attacking Midfield: Samir Nasri

Former Arsenal man Samir Nasri is finally playing like everyone knew he could under Manuel Pellegrini, and is quickly re-emerging as a candidate for the best player in the Premier League. 2 second half goals against Swansea City put the result beyond doubt and seen City comfortably pick up 3 points and keep the gap between them and Arsenal respectable.

Centre Forward: Wayne Rooney

The England international is playing the best football of his career under David Moyes again and is proving able to pick up where Robin van Persie has left off for his injury forced spell on the sidelines. 2 goals against Spurs kept United going, although neither of them were exactly spectacular, he was efficient and punished Spurs’ lousy back-line.
