Arsenal 5 – 2 Tottenham: The Gunners Proved That There Is No Power Shift In North London

It’s the North London derby this Sunday and as the two rivals prepare themselves to have a go at each other, we will look back at the last game that these two were involved.

The score line read 5-2 at the end of the 90 minutes, which was the exact score line during the previous North London derby as well. Arsenal started the season horribly and continued to go down as they found it difficult to pick up 3 points. Going into the game the Gunners were sitting below Tottenham in the table and were well off the pace with the leaders.

At the start of the game, Spurs were completely dominated the play as the hosts were little nervy. Arsenal found it difficult to cope up with the 4-4-2 formation used by Andre Villas-Boas and it payed off as Adebayor drew first blood as soon as the 10th minute to give the visitors an early advantage. However, the former Arsenal man had a moment off madness as he went studs up on Santi Cazorla which saw him walk off with a straight red. Spurs, who were dominating the early exchanges were completely on the back foot and with the home fans going wild it was not long before the Gunners found their way back into the match.

Per Mertesacker was the scorer of the first goal around the 20th minute and two late first half goals from Podolski and Giroud sealed off a perfect opening 45 minutes for the home side. Tottenham stepped up in the second half with an improved 3-5-1 formation but the numerical advantage always helped the Gunners as they scored their 4th goal in a perfect counter attack. Podolski’s waited ball into the penalty area was netted in by Cazorla.

Gareth Bale pulled one back for the visitors but it was a little too late for them as Theo Walcott managed to net in Arsenal’s 5th goal to make it 5-2.
