Reports are now coming in that even Chelsea have joined the race to bring Robert Lewandowski to Stamford Bridge next season. Apparently Jose Mourinho, who is pretty confident of joining the London outfit and have met Roman Abramovich to discuss the clauses of his contract, have called Lewandowski’s agent Maik Barthel to persuade the striker in following him to Chelsea. This was revealed by Bayern Munich president Karl Heinz Rummenigge whose club now seems to be in the lead in snatching the striker from Borussia Dortmund.
Chelsea is not the only English club though to chase the prolific striker who has scored 53 times in 93 appearances for the German side and single handedly ousted Real Madrid from the Champion’s League this season scoring four goals in the first leg.
Lewandowski has also been subject to a long time pursuit of Manchester United, Ferguson wanting to bring him to Old Trafford in a swap deal with Chicharito. But so far he has shown his inclination towards the Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich, the side which will be taken over by Pep Guardiola next season. But Borussia will be against selling their best striker to their German counterparts after failing to prevent Mario Gotze from joining them.
Chelsea, who will be hoping to leave their disappointments of the last couple of seasons behind them, is in dire need of a front man as both Demba Ba and Torres are not world class strikers. They had earlier targeted Cavani and Falcao but both these players are proving to be very expensive and may not prefer to join the club. In these case Jose Mourinho, who had been on the receiving end of Lewandowski’s heroics in the Champion’s League is keen to bring the 24 year old Polish man who can redefine Chelsea’s strike force.
