Crystal Palace returned to winning ways with a hard-fought 2-0 victory over a sluggish Fulham at Selhurst Park to go seven points clear from the danger zone. Luka Milivojevic and Jeffrey Schlupp were the goalscorers for the Eagles, who never looked like missing Wilfried Zaha in their team.
Around the half-way point of the first-half, Cyrus Christie handled the ball in his own box when jumping in the air. The referee had no hesitation to point to the spot and Milivojevic made no mistake in slotting home the goal in the 25th minute.
The Cottagers did try to come back into the game by having possession and waiting to open a crack in the Palace defence, but it wasn’t to be. Right-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka particularly had a fantastic game for the hosts.
Fulham’s keeper had to be alert to keep out the shots from Jordan Ayew and Schlupp, while Mamadou Sakho had a couple of headed chances which he put wide.
In the 87th minute, new signing Michy Batshuayi forced a superb save from Sergio Rico, but Schlupp was there on hand to slot in the rebound and secure the points for Roy Hodgson’s men.
As a result of that win, Palace are now 14th in the table with 26 points from 25 games. It is generally a case that if a team has more points than the number of games played, then they are on course to survive in the league. Fulham stay in the bottom three, seven points away from safety.
Here’s how the Eagles fans reacted on Twitter after another vital win:
