Aston Villa v Millwall Report – Aston Villa Match Report

Aston Villa made it record-breaking 10 wins in a row by beating Millwall at Villa Park and strengthened their grip for a playoff finish. Jonathan Kodjia scored the only goal of the game to win the game for Dean Smith’s men.

As a result of that, the Villans are fifth in the table with 75 points on the board, nine clear of seventh-placed Bristol City.

The home side broke the deadlock in the 30th minute when an Anwar El Ghazi cross was stabbed home by Kodjia.

Since then, it was more or less one-way traffic with Villa creating chances and pushing for the second goal, notwithstanding the fact that Millwall did have a couple of chances of their own.

Villa should have won this game more comfortably, but the Millwall keeper David Martin produced a string of good saves. He saved two El Ghazi attempts that were goal-bound while denying Jack Grealish and Andre Green was impressive as well.

Kodjia went on a fine solo run and almost took it all the way, before prodding his effort wide.

The visitors could have punished Villa for not being clinical when Jake Cooper had a chance to head home the equaliser after Jed Steer failed to meet the free-kick. However, the former headed his effort wide, much to the relief of the majority at Villa Park.

All in all, a hard-working win for Smith’s men, who now look in good stead to contest the playoffs in May. Here’s how their fans reacted after this game:
