Tottenham Hotspur failed to lift any silverware yet again last season, but they managed to qualify for the Champions League, which will give them a chance to lure some of the top class players in Europe to the squad this summer. The manager wants to improve a few areas in the squad and one position he will definitely look to strengthen is that of the striker’s.
English international Harry Kane was in blistering form last season, winning the Golden Boot, even after missing almost 8 games with injuries. However, Dutch international Vincent Janssen was the only backup in the first team for Kane and was not able to impress Mauricio Pochettino, who is reportedly ready to let him leave this summer.
This will mean that Spurs need a genuine striker who can act as a backup for Kane in the first team next season and though they have been linked with some exciting stars recently, the latest name doing the rounds is of Joshua King’s.
Born and brought up in Oslo, Norway, the 25-year old started his youth career in England with Manchester United and made it into the first team in 2010, just two years after moving to Manchester. However, he failed to make a single appearance at Old Trafford, spending four years on loan at different clubs, before settling at Blackburn in 2013.
Just two years later, Eddie Howe was convinced that King was the right man for the Bournemouth job in the Premier League and ever since, the Norway international has been the first choice striker for the Cherries, scoring 22 goals in 67 top flight appearances till date. He picked up 19 goals and 2 assists, to stand as one of the most productive players from the bottom half of the table and Spurs are convinced that he is the right man to act as a backup for Kane next season.
Known for his dribbling and finishing abilities, King is a versatile attacker, who can play on the wing as well. Though he is not strong with his hold up play, the 25-year-old is a hard working player who gives it his all, every time he is on the field. He is a smart attacker who relies on short passes to get him through on goal while his consistency in the final third only makes him a more attractive option.
He does not have any Champions League exposure but is an established star who can surely help Tottenham at the highest level next season. He is a serious upgrade on Janssen, who has been disappointing. Maybe King is the man to replace Janssen and support Harry Kane!
