After Grealish, it’s time for Aston Villa to tie down this 23-year-old star to a new contract

Why Aston Villa have to make sure John McGinn stays for a long time

Aston Villa have made a mediocre start to the season in the Championship. They are languishing at 13th place on the table, having won only three of the nine games played. Manager Steve Bruce is probably struggling to set up his team in a way that would be easier for them to win games.

According to Sky Sports, Bruce is feeling the heat at the club. Villa fans are demanding for more in the wake of their team slipping down the table every other week.

However, one player who can stand up and say that he has performed well this season is John McGinn. The young Scottish midfielder joined the club this summer from Hibernian for an undisclosed fee and has been terrific in central midfield.

He is one player who is constantly getting plaudits for his performances on a weekly basis, irrespective of the team’s display. The 23-year-old’s wonder goal against Sheffield Wednesday last Saturday stunned the world of football. But Villa lost that home game, leaving the fans agitated.

Hence, this is a perfect scenario for a player showing up every time but the team not doing enough to turn up in a positive manner. McGinn has run the show for Villa in certain games, which just goes on to show how good a midfielder he is.

John McGinn

It wouldn’t be a surprise if any big Premier League team takes a closer look and buys him sooner rather than later. For that reason, the Birmingham club needs to make sure that the 23-year-old stays for a longer period of time. They have done a tremendous job to get him in the first place, so it’d be better if they manage to use him for a few years.

Aston Villa did a good job by offering a new deal to their other key player – Jack Grealish, who signed that contract last night.

They must now watch the progress of McGinn and tie him up to a long-term contract as soon as possible. The Scot has quickly become an integral cog in the team, without who the side’s struggle may deepen.
