Premier League opinion: Spurs and Man City combined XI

Tottenham Hotspur face Manchester City in the big game of the weekend on Saturday in the Premier League. The two faced each other in one of the greatest Champions League games of the competition’s history last season and if it’s half as entertaining, it should be a great game.

Both sides have a bunch of very talented players and let’s now form a combined XI of the best:

Ederson – Goalkeeper (Manchester City)

The Brazilian gets the nod as he’s one of the best distributors from goal in football today. There’s no other goalie who helps overload the side quite as much as him.

He’s also a very good shot-stopper, a massive presence in goal and can play as a sweeper to stop counter-attacks.

Kyle Walker – Right-back (Manchester City)

The England international has improved his game massively since leaving Spurs for the Etihad. His passing game has improved massively.

He no longer bombs forward without any intention and waits for the right opportunity to play a decisive pass instead of losing possession with unnecessary crosses.

Toby Alderweirld – Centre-back (Tottenham Hotspur)

The Belgian international has been one of the top centre-backs in the league for over half a decade now. His distribution, reading of the game and his composure is exemplary. He would also add some experience to this backline.

Toby Alderweireld

Aymeric Laporte – Centre-back (Manchester City)

After making a slow start to his career at the Etihad, Laporte has quickly made himself one of the most reliable centre-backs in the Premier League. If it wasn’t for Liverpool’s Virgil van Dijk, he’d probably be considered the best centre-half in the Premier League.

Danny Rose – Left-back (Tottenham Hotspur)

The England international is a marauding force on the left-hand side and would give some much-needed width on that left flank. He is very vocal and would give this side some aggression.

Rodri – Holding Midfielder (Manchester City)

Pep Guardiola has wasted no time in making the Spaniard his midfield general. Standing at 6 ft and 3 inches, the Spaniard is the long-term heir to Sergio Busquets and is destined to become one of the best players in his position.

Kevin De Bruyne – Attacking midfielder (Manchester City)

Considered by many as the best player in the league, the Belgian is back to his best after suffering from an injury for most of last season. He’s quick, decisive, can score goals or come up with the final pass.

Kevin De Bruyne

David Silva – Attacking midfielder (Manchester City)

The one who dictates things in midfield, the Spaniard is the one who sticks everything together. He’s the link between midfield and attack and is arguably City’s greatest ever player.

Raheem Sterling – Left-winger (Manchester City)

Raheem Sterling’s rise has been truly phenomenal. He has been a revelation in the last two seasons and his flexibility makes him an easy pick. Great at receiving the ball at feet or running in behind, the Englishman is the perfect all-purpose forward.

Raheem Sterling

Harry Kane – Centre-forward (Tottenham Hotspur)

The England centre-forward is deceptively quick, has great hold-up play and can score with his head, left or right foot. He’s also ready to carry his team through and leads by example.

Harry Kane

Lucas Moura – Right-winger (Tottenham Hotspur)

The Brazilian has revived his career under Mauricio Pochettino. He presses from the front, is a great dribbler and is also a threat in front of the goal. He’s also become a player for the big moments.
