Watford v Southampton Report – Watford Match Report

Watford conceded the Premier League’s fastest goal but managed to equalise in the 90th minute and play out a 1-1 draw with Southampton at Vicarage Road.

Shane Long struck for the Saints after 7.69 seconds, while Andre Gray netted the leveller for the home side in the dying embers of the contest.

Just when the Hornets kicked off the first-half, the Southampton striker charged down centre-back Craig Cathcart’s pass, before lifting the ball over Ben Foster to stun everyone.

The game settled down after that, with both teams getting into good positions without being able to put that finishing touch. Gray had his effort saved by Saints keeper Angus Gunn a few minutes after that opening goal.

The visitors did strike the post twice before the interval though as Watford struggled to defend their own box.

However, after the break, Javi Gracia’s men came into it and began creating good chances. Gray and Doucoure had good chances in the opening minutes of this half but they weren’t taken.

The equaliser eventually came in the 90th minute when Gunn made a save from Roberto Pereyra’s header and Gray tucked in the rebound powerfully to level things up.

This stalemate puts Watford at seventh position in the table as their European hopes stay alive going into the final three weeks of the season. They also have an FA Cup final to look forward to.

Here’s how their fans reacted after this game:
