A Replacement For Oxlade-Chamberlain? – Why Arsenal Should Press Ahead With Their Idea Of Signing This 22-Year Old German Midfield Ace

Arsenal Should Sign Leon Goretzka At All Costs And Here’s Why

Germany, of late, has produced some of the best talents possible. The likes of Mario Gotze, Julian Draxler and Andre Schurrle are some fine examples of the talents that Germany has produced. There’s a new line of production now, with the likes of Julian Brandt, Max Meyer and Leon Goretzka coming through the ranks at their respective clubs.

Leon Goretzka in particular has been linked with a move away from the club despite being given the vice-captaincy after Ralf Fahrmann displaced Benedikt Howedes as Schalke captain. Arsenal have been linked with a move for him, after finding themselves light-weight in the midfield area recently. The absence of Santi Cazorla has hurt them badly and they are on the look-out for substantial replacements.

Goretzka recently represented Germany at the Confederations Cup 2017 in Russia and scored 3 goals there as he impressed severely in a midfield role. Goretzka is 6’2 ½ in height and this allows him to express his heading prowess and win a lot of aerial duels against opposition defences. He also has considerable pace and can outpace the opposition and score goals like he did in a Confed Cup game against Mexico.

He is versatile as he can play in a number of positions. Goretzka can play in the midfield, attacking midfield or in one of the wings. This makes him a really exciting prospect for Arsenal to sign and it’s possible that Bayern Munich will be interested in signing him up on a free transfer. Arsenal should look to move fast in the transfer market and approach Schalke for his services.

At Arsenal, he will fit in very well as he likes to play the passing-game. Besides that, Arsenal have failed to find a perfect foil for Swiss midfielder Granit Xhaka, who has found it tough in the Premier League, impressing only in a few games. The addition of Goretzka could help them in the long-run too as he is only 22 years old.

He could be the perfect replacement for Santi Cazorla, albeit he doesn’t match the Spaniard’s class when it comes to his passing range and ability on the ball. Since Goretzka can play on the wings as well, he can pretty much replace Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain if he leaves Arsenal.

Goretzka started off his career at VfL Bochum and made the move to Schalke, impressing ever since. His height sees him score headed goals and he is equally good with long-range efforts as well.

I would adamantly recommend that Arsenal vie for his signature as he could be a top talent for the years to come. He has recently stated that he might not extend his stay at The Veltins Arena and that could be an opening that Arsenal should look to work on. Mohamed Elneny hasn’t quite hit the heights that were promised of him and under those circumstances, Arsenal signing Goretzka would be a huge boost for not only the club but the player as well.
