A Combined 12 Goals This Season – Are Manchester United Regretting The Decision To Sell This Attacking Duo Now?

Jose Mourinho’s team isn’t living up to the expectations so far this season, having a great performance one day and being a complete disaster the next one. Even with the huge investment that the Glazers group made to reinforce the red devil’s squad for this year after having a couple of under par seasons following Sir Alex Ferguson’s departure from Old Trafford.

The Red Devils are currently sitting on seventh position of this season’s table and Mourinho’s start of the year is even worse than the one that Louis Van Gaal had before being sacked at the end of last year so the Portuguese could take the big spot at Manchester.

This kind of numbers are completely unexplainable when you look at the current roster of Mourinho’s side, with huge names of the likes of Paul Pogba, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Wayne Rooney, Juan Mata and Henrikh Mkhitaryan, but all those big names are yet to make a consistent impact in the field for the red devils.

When you look at Manchester United’s bench, things start to get a little tricky, as there aren’t a lot of good choices for Mourinho when he’s in need of changing his scheme. Memphis Depay is having a terrible season and Jesse Lingard isn’t quite ready yet to become a steady contributor despite having some nice performances overall for his team.

So, when things aren’t going your way, it’s only natural to look back and retrace your steps and start to look at some moves you made with different eyes. Where did it all go wrong for the Red Devils? Who did they regret letting go?

There are actually a couple of players that are having a pretty decent season for their new teams, and those could have played a big role in helping Mourinho’s side make a run at the title this year.

One of those lads is the unorthodox goal scorer Javier ‘Chicharito’ Hernandez, who’s quickly becoming a fan favourite as his new side, Bayer Leverkusen, is constantly scoring when he is in the team, especially when they are in need and he is giving a constant performance for the German team and is creating opportunities for his teammates as well.

Chicharito has made 8 goals and recorded one assist in 10 games for the German side so far this season despite only recording a pair of starts. His hot streak doesn’t seem that’s going to come to an end anytime soon, as he scored a goal in his team’s loss the past Saturday, and the Mexican could help ease the pressure of a struggling Zlatan Ibrahimovic that has only scored 4 goals so far this season.

The other player that the Glazers could be actually regretting to let go is Nani, as the Portuguese is trying to rebuild his career at a struggling Valencia team that desperately needed his speed, dribbling and shooting abilities so they can avoid relegation.

The Portuguese forward is having a pretty nice season overall, scoring 8 goals and netting 4 assists in 20 matches played this season with Portugal and Valencia, and his presence could be a ton of help from the bench in those games when Manchester United struggle.

Of course, saying that letting these players go was a mistake is kind of overreacting, but there’s no doubt that given the chance, they both could have brought a lot of help for Mourinho’s side in a substitute role.
