9 goals, 5 assists – Wolves shouldn’t think twice about securing a permanent move for their in-form star

Why Wolves should sign Raul Jimenez permanently from Benfica

Wolverhampton Wanderers have been superb in the Premier League so far this campaign. They won automatic promotion from the Championship to the Premier League at the end of last season and are showing the kind of form which could see them finish 7th in the 2018/19 campaign.

Nuno Espirito Santo’s side are seventh in the Premier League table at the moment with 38 points from 25 matches. Wolves invested massively during the summer strengthen their squad, with Nuno bringing in the likes of Adama Traore, Joao Moutinho and Rui Patricio etc. to link up with the likes of Ruben Neves, Willy Boly, Diogo Jota and Helder Costa.

However, one player who deserves special recognition is Mexican striker Raul Jimenez. The 27-year-old arrived in England to join Wolves from Benfica on loan until the end of the season with an option to make it permanent. In his first season of Premier League football, the Mexican has netted 9 league goals and supplied 5 assists.

Raul Jimenez

He is in the form of his life right now and continues to be Wolves’ chief source of goals. Raul Jimenez has scored in his last three games for Wolves, with a goal against Shrewsbury Town in the FA Cup followed up by a two-goal day against West Ham and another goal last weekend against Everton.

This could be the most prolific season that the 27-year-old has enjoyed in European football since his move to Portugal back in 2014. For a player unfamiliar with the league, playing for a newly-promoted side and making a big impact is commendable.

But it’s not just Jimenez’s goals that have helped Wolves enjoy their return to the Premier League. The Mexican’s selfless attitude coupled with his work ethic and energy have made him a fan favourite at the Molineux. The Mexico international hasn’t just been a goalscorer for the Premier League side but has also produced five assists, which exactly tells what kind of forward he is.

Raul Jimenez

Jimenez has seamlessly slotted into Nuno’s system and has gelled very well with fellow attackers Diogo Jota, Joao Moutinho and Helder Costa, making Wolves such a dangerous side to come up against for the Premier League teams. Not to forget, he has also scored or assisted in games against nearly all the big six.

Undoubtedly, Jimenez has proven to be an inspired addition for Wolves and one of the best signings of 2018 summer transfer window. His numbers, work rate, selfless attitude and the quality he brings to the team’s play in the final third should make his permanent signing a priority for Wolves in the summer.
