Why Chelsea Must Offer Michy Batshuayi A Second Chance

Antonio Conte’s reign at Chelsea came at a cost. A lot of the club’s faithful players have either left or are on the verge of exiting. It started with Diego Costa’s unceremonious departure which was understood to be due to a tussle between the player and the manager, as per a report from The Telegraph.

Modern-day club legend John Terry also chose to leave and now, David Luiz is also looking increasingly likely to exit Stamford Bridge this summer, according to Daily Express. Another fan favourite, Michy Batshuayi is also expected to leave Chelsea at the end of the season, as per Evening Standard.

Despite his talent and potential, Conte seemingly iced him out of the squad for a good majority of the season. Last term, he failed to secure game time due to Costa’s presence but last summer, Alvaro Morata arrived at Chelsea and that proved to be quite a turning point. Batshuayi’s game time took a major hit and even at times when Morata failed to deliver results, the Belgian was overlooked by Conte.

Eventually, Chelsea signed Olivier Giroud from Arsenal in January and that appeared to be the final nail in the coffin. Batshuayi immediately left the club in a temporary loan deal to Borussia Dortmund and what a time he has been having for the German giants!

In 10 Bundesliga appearances, he has already scored 7 goals for the club. Even when he has not found the back of the net, Batshuayi has displayed admirable creativity to make an impact for the club.

Thus, it comes as no surprise that Dortmund are reportedly keen on signing him permanently. He is a gem of a player and the fact is that he was just wasting his time at Chelsea. However, should the London-based outfit swallow their pride and offer him a second chance?

The answer to that is a big yes. Batshuayi is arguably one of the most talented Belgian players in modern football right now and based on his Dortmund performances, it is quite clear that he does not lack goalscoring instincts.

Conte’s decision to prevent him from playing regularly could have been fuelled by several factors that we are not aware of but after his Bundesliga stint, surely the Italian’s mind has to change. At 24 years of age, Batshuayi boasts of ample experience and he is incredibly skilled as well.

In order to put up a stronger performance next season, Chelsea will need a reliable striker and a player like Batshuayi can truly work wonders for the club in several aspects.
