60% Shot Accuracy, 1.24 Key Passes Per 90 – Why This 23-year Old Is Better Than Arsenal’s Walcott And Giroud

With each day passing by, Arsenal seem to be linked with a new player and rightly so. The Gunners have certainly slipped a lot in the second half of the season, which seems to be a regular feature for Arsenal every year and now it seems that new players could actually help the side if they can capture them.

Goals aren’t a problem for Arsenal but a striker and a world class one has been a requirement for the club for a few years now. Even though Olivier Giroud does get the job done, there have been calls to replace the Frenchman with someone who can fit the system and lead the line well.

Alvaro Morata is the next player who has been linked with a move to Arsenal, even though the Spaniard has signed a contract extension which keeps him at Juventus till 2020, he could be the man that plays for the Gunners next season should Arsene spend the right amount on the 23-year-old.

We compare the stats of the Juventus star with those of Arsenal’s strike force of Olivier Giroud and Theo Walcott and see just how do they fare in the scheme of things. We only looked at per 90 minute stats from the respective leagues to gain a decent idea of who comes out on top.

A new member coming into the Arsenal family?

Morata is a winner, especially after moving from Real Madrid, the Spaniard seems to be winning almost everything there is to win in Italian football and he has scored 23 times in 83 appearances for Juventus in his career at the club so far. Giroud does have a better scoring record than the Spaniard but could it be the movement and link up play by Morata that could well seal the deal for Arsenal.

The 23-year-old Morata makes more successful passes per 90 minutes than both Giroud and Walcott. The Spaniard averages 24.3 successful passes per 90 compared to 21.0 for Giroud and 15.9 for Walcott, which is extremely low for the English attacker.

Even when it comes to key passes, it is Morata who comes out on top with 1.24 key passes per 90 minutes compared to Walcott’s 1.05 and Giroud’s 0.98. The Spanish star also provides more assists per 90 with 0.23 compared to 0.19 for Giroud and 0.14 for Walcott.

It does seem that Morata has better stats compared to Giroud and Walcott but would he work all that well in an English team? That will be a tough thing to ascertain based on how transfers work out but if Arsenal do sign the attacker, it would be a great one for the Gunners for the future and the now.
