59% Aerial Duels Won, 4.4 Interceptions – Stats Show This Arsenal Midfielder Is As Good As Leicester Star

Share

One of the signings in recent memory which has worked a treat for a Premier League side has to be N’Golo Kante. The Leicester midfielder was bought for a paltry 400,000 pounds, which is peanuts in this modern day of football but he certainly has shown that a great scouting network will work well, if given the time.

On the other side we have another midfielder who has done incredibly well for Arsenal but through their youth system, Francis Coquelin. The French midfielder has been one of the best players in his role and whenever he is missing from the side, Arsenal struggle in containing their opponents.

Both players have been stars for their side this season and we compare exactly how these two have played this season. Using Squawka.com we compare their per 90 minute stat as this would be the best way to find out which midfielder has had a better season.

Kante vs. Coquelin

The first point to make is that Coquelin has only played 19 Premier League games this season due to a range of injuries while Kante has participated in 30 games. Passing is an extremely important facet of football nowadays and both players put up impressive numbers.

While Kante comes in with an 82% pass completion rate, Coquelin has been able to make 89% of all his passes this season. The sheer number of passes by the Arsenal man is greater as well; he provides 55 passes per game while Kane only brings in about 43 passes to his Leicester teammates every 90 minutes.

Enough of all the passing, both the players are known more for their defensive abilities and tackling is one of the most important facets of their game. N’Golo Kante is the better tackler between the duo with 3.6 tackles made per 90 compared to 3.1 for Coquelin this season.

However taking on the opposition is another discussion as it is the young Gunner who takes over his counterpart. Coquelin averages a success rate of 83% when taking on other players while Kante comes in with just 63%.

You might think that Coquelin would be poor in the air when compared with the stats of the Leicester player but that is also thrown into the water. The Arsenal player has a success rate of 59% in aerial duels compared to Kante’s 40%.

The Leicester player does however commit fewer fouls compared to Coquelin and he is great at disrupting the opposition also. Kante averages 4.7 interceptions per 90 while Coquelin only comes in with 4.4.

Kante also has 2 clearances per 90 minutes while Coquelin only provides 1.3 clearances per 90. The stats for the duo are pretty spread out as Coquelin seems to be a better tackler compared to Kante but the Leicester player is better at stopping the passing game of the opposition.

Both players are great at what they do and are crucial for their team’s, stating one being better than the other wouldn’t be the right thing to do and let us just call this as a draw.
