5 Deadwoods Manchester United Have To Let Go & Start Building From Scratch This Summer

Share

We can consider that Man United are already letting Club Captain Nemanja Vidic and Vice-Captain Patrice Evra move on with their careers elsewhere as they are all set to leave the club in the summer. Vidic has confirmed that he’ll join Inter Milan while Evra’s choice is unknown. We shall now look at players that Man United should let go in order to give them a chance of rebuilding their team for the next season under a new manager.

5. Tom Cleverley

The Englishman’s inclusion in this list would hardly be a surprise to anyone. Cleverley has been woeful for the 12-13 Champions and has failed to show the potential that once Sir Alex Ferguson saw in him. Cleverley burst into the scene early last season and then faded out rather surprisingly.

Tom Cleverley has been heavily criticized for his absolute lack of vision in the heart of the Manchester United midfield. Despite having decent technique and passing ability, Tom never really affects the game as he has been unable to apply his mind. He looks like a misfit in a team of the stature of Man United. With Ross Barkley, another England player rising to fame this season and in a much more convincing and consistent manner, Man United among other Premier League clubs will be looking to add him in their team and that could surely mean the end of Cleverley’s Man United spot. If not Barkley, Toni Kroos is also among the club’s targets, and a signing as big as the German would mean that Cleverley will either have to be content as a reserve or will have to move on, probably to some other team in the Premier League.

4. Nani

Nani was once deemed as the next best thing. Skills, pace and enthusiasm, he had everything. Unfortunately, his career has been laden with injuries and he has never been able to reach the heights in United after his PFA Young Player of the Season award back in the good old days.

Nani has trained hard and has fought his way back into the first team many times this season. With David Moyes giving him a new long term deal, it appeared as if the Portuguese international is finally going to kick start a successful season of football. But sadly, he could not maintain his fitness and was subsequently dropped to the bench.

As the next season looms, Nani and United will have to make a decision. With the arrival of Juan Mata, a creative super star and the availability of the talented Kagawa and the resurgent Valencia, Nani will find it hard to break into the first team when the new manager joins the club. Even if the manager prefers the natural United philosophy of wingers, there is more probability of the other players being selected. Nani will be best suited to move on and continue his career elsewhere and establish his career.

3. Anderson

The 26 year old Brazilian who is currently enjoying his loan spell at Fiorentina was once brought in by Sir Alex as an enthusiastic and promising teenager. As has been the case with Nani, the midfielder showed a lot of potential but then fell pray to injuries and fitness struggles and could rarely make it into the first team.

Anderson is enjoying his football in Italy and has an opportunity to kick start his career in Italy or somewhere else. He will have some memorable moments in a Man United team as well as a Champions League and four Premier League medals.

2. Bebe

There is really no surprise whatsoever with the Portuguese player’s name in the list. Bebe was never really the level of the other stars mentioned in this list, not even Cleverley. Alex Ferguson signed him when he was very young, and for a reported 7.4 million transfer fee which is now very questionable as the guy has been a major flop.

Bebe has been decent in Portugal with some handful of well taken goals, as he has led the line for Pacos de Ferreira. But the fact that Bebe has been the part of the team that aimed for Europa league football is now struggling near the relegation zone tells the story about how he has actually failed to rise to the occasion even in Portugal.

Bebe is a decent player and is just a misjudged buy from Alex Ferguson as the Portuguese Forward doesn’t fit in a big club like Manchester United and would be better off playing in a smaller club.

1. Federico Macheda

Macheda has always been the loaned-out guy. He had burst into the scene at a very young age as he scored on his debut to contribute to United’s title victory in 2009. Since then Macheda has rarely been upto the mark and United have dealt with him by loaning him out.

Macheda, like Bebe, has been getting goals in his loan spell for Birmingham City. But again, Birmingham has been abysmal this season as he has been part of the Birmingham side that holds the worst home record in English football this year, which has also resulted in them being in the relegation zone.

Macheda again, is a misjudged buy and will fit in smaller teams but cannot do the same in Manchester United.
