5 Bizarre / Emotional Moments To Remember This EPL Season: Suarez Crying, Pardew Headbutt, Specialist In Failure Comments

Football is not only a game that is played on the field, but it is a matter of life and death. This season has been a testament to the fact with the emotions often running high and creating moments which the fans and the supporters of the beautiful game would remember for a long time to come. We take a look at five such special moments which would be in our memory when we talk about this season.

Steven Gerrard slip

After the game against Manchester City he asked his teammates not to slip anymore in the season and how ironic is it that his own slip against Chelsea could cost Liverpool the title? In the dying moments of the first half Steven Gerrard slipped on the field in his attempt to collect a ball from Sakho and Demba Ba was there to collect the ball, make a run and score the all important goal. This goal changed the title race all together and put City in the driving seat. Gerrard seemed visibly distressed after the match and would certainly feel guilty about it for the longest time possible.

Walcott celebration

The rivalry between Arsenal and Spurs is well known with both the teams making their hatred for each other public. But it scaled to new heights when Arsenal player Theo Walcott made an apparent gesture which signified the 2-0 lead that his team was enjoying against Spurs in their FA Cup clash. Walcott was being stretched off after suffering an injury and the sign made his parting look even more ugly. An act in the right spirit of the game? NO! But a banter worth remembering? Definitely yes! Walcott went on to do the same during Arsenal’s final home game of the season against West Brom in the lap of appreciation.

Specialist in failure comments

The build up to the match between Chelsea and Arsenal was intense and Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho made such a comment in that period that could be conceived to be in a bad taste. There has always been a known rivalry between Wenger and Mourinho since the time he took charge of the Blues back in 2004.

Wenger had earlier accused Mourinho of being scared to admit that Chelsea are a genuine title contenders because the Portuguese manager has he has a ‘fear of failure’ and replying to those comments, Mourinho dubbed Arsene Wenger to be a specialist in failure, something which angered most of the Arsenal fans and they became visibly upset. But after the match Wenger declined to comment on that and that cooled the whole matter. To which Wenger replied,

“Look, I don’t want to go into that silly, disrespectful remarks. I never spoke about him in my press conference, and I will not start that. The only thing I know it’s more embarrassing for Chelsea than for me.”

Suarez crying

He has had the image of the bad boy of football and thus the whole football world was stunned when Luis Suarez broke into tears after Liverpool’s match against Crystal Palace which Liverpool drew after staying 3-0 up till the 79th minute. Liverpool’s title hopes were arguably dashed with that match and Suarez was inconsolable after that. It was left to captain Steven Gerrard to console the Uruguayan and escort him towards the tunnel.

Alan Pardew headbutt

Back in March and arguably the worst incident that has happened in the league so far. Newcastle’s under fire manager Alan Pardew headbutted Hull City player David Meyler when he attempted to take a quick throw in. The incidents following which looked very unprofessional as players and staffs from both the sides gathered in a fracas near the touch line. Pardew was sent off from the touchline and Meyler received a card.

Following the match, Newcastle fined £100,000 as a punishment for Pardew’s actions and the FA handed him a seven match touch line ban.
