3 Vardy Alternatives Wenger Should Target This Summer

Share

Arsenal are in need of signing more players this summer, as they wish to win more titles in the upcoming campaign. Manager Arsene Wenger knows which areas in his current side need to be strengthened and will look to add the right type of players to fill in any voids at present. The Londoners finished in second place in the league, 10 points behind Claudio Ranieri’s side and were not too impressive in the cup competitions as well.

Keeping that in mind, the Gunners are in need of signing a striker and were in the hunt to bring Leicester City’s English striker Jamie Vardy to the Emirates.

Despite a firm interest from the north London outfit, it was recently confirmed that the 29 year old superstar had signed a new deal with the Foxes and would not leaving the KP Stadium this summer.

The French manager will have to try his best to bring him some other players, who can add more depth to his attack and here are three players the Premier League giants can probably sign, now that the Vardy deal is dead and dusted:

3. Loic Remy (Chelsea):

Whether the footballing world agrees to this now or takes it’s own sweet time to accept this fact, Olivier Giroud is a great striker. Last season’s goal drought does not prove anything, apart from the point that Wenger should have signed another striker and taken some load off of Giroud’s shoulders. Further, his performances in the Euro 2016 tournament have shown why he is a team player and does not have to be completely replaced by another better option. Giroud can do the job for his boss but needs a good backup, who can ensure that he can be rested or dropped if needed and the team does not suffer.

In comes, Chelsea’s Loic Remy, who has been reported to be on the verge of an exit from Stamford Bridge, as new boss Antonio Conte is set to add more stars this summer. The Frenchman is a handy player, who can not just play up front but on the wings as well, if needed. This would mean that he would be not just a backup for Giroud, but for the wingers too. The player did not do much in the previous campaign, though Chelsea were anyways quite poor overall. The former Newcastle man helped the Blues win the Premier League title in the 2014-15 season with some crucial goals, when both Diego Costa and Didier Drogba were injured and could play a similar role for the Gunners.

2. Arkadiusz Milik (Ajax):

Three big European clubs, Arsenal, Liverpool and Barcelona were chasing Milik in the past, with the hopes of signing him, though a move has not been completed yet. At present, the 22 year old Poland international plays for Ajax and there were claims that the north London outfit were keen to beat their rivals and bring him to the Emirates. In his first season in Holland, the attacker scored 16 goals, with 8 assists in just 25 Eredivisie games and has impressed enough to attract the attention of Arsene Wenger’s side, who are still in need of another quality striker, amongst their ranks.

1. Alexandre Lacazette (Lyon):

Recently there were speculations that Wenger would be meeting Alexandre Lacazette’s agent, after joining the race to bring the 25 year old forward to England this summer. The Arsenal boss knows that he needs more quality in his attack and has now turned to the Lyon man once again, as a possible solution to his problems. Lacazette, who made his debut for the club’s first team back in the 2010, has 172 Ligue 1 appearances to his name and has netted 72 goals so far. Wenger might have already given up on some of his other potential targets by now and might sign the attacker instead.
