3 Things That Arsenal Need To Do Before Next Season

Share

A season which could have been something special came down to almost nought, after the 0-0 draw against Chelsea, Arsenal have no real chance of winning the Premier League however they still have a chance of winning the FA Cup. Arsenal have had a brilliant second half of the season but the most frustrating thing for the Arsenal fans would have been the way they lost to Monaco in the UEFA Champions League and the fact that they didn’t play this well at the start of the season.

Wenger

This season has been something special for Alexis Sanchez though, the winger has been exceptional for Arsenal and was single-handedly carrying the team in the first half of the season. Sanchez would have loved it if he can finish the season with some silverware. If Arsenal are to make a stronger claim for the title next season, here are three things they need to do.

Get rid of the deadweight

While Arsenal have had most of their starting XI playing out of their skin, they still need to remove some of the dead weight. Players like Diaby need to be taken off the wage list as younger players would be coming up from the ranks. Mikel Arteta might be another player who could have seen the door and the likes of Per Mertesacker and Wojciech Szczesny should be leaving the club and opening avenues for other players. Even the likes of Podolski could be leaving the club as he is on loan at Inter Milan, the faster they get rid of these players, and the better it would be for team chemistry and the wage bill.

Sign a defensive midfielder and a central defender

People and pundits have been banging about this for years on end and maybe Arsene Wenger could be listening to them now, Arsenal have been in need of a world-class defensive midfielder and central defender for years and they did sign Gabriel Paulista in the winter transfer window but he still needs some time before he can be considered as a regular starter. They also have relied heavily on Francis Coquelin, the French midfielder, but they do need world-class players in that role and the faster they get them the better it will be for Arsenal, these two positions are the weak links in the team.

Attacking clarity

Arsenal need to clarify what their attacking line-up could be for next season while Olivier Giroud has done a decent enough job; he has not been helped enough by Danny Welbeck and the likes of Walcott and Ozil. They have had to rely heavily on Alexis Sanchez as well, the faster they can get another striker in the team who can score goals the better it will be for them. They also have players like Sanogo and Campbell on loan, Campbell was especially brilliant in the World Cup but has not seen the light at Arsenal, next season could be big for the Costa Rica forward and for Arsenal as well.
